India wins a silver first time ever in an individual event in the Olympics! A guy called Norman Prichard had won two silvers in 1904. He lived in India, but now those two silvers have been added to the British tally.
So now Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore has become the first Indian to win an individual silver medal in the Olympics! Three cheers for him! Rathore's silver lining to India's medal cloud NEW DELHI: Shooter Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore on Tuesday opened India's medal count in Athens. Rathore finished second, bagging the silver medal in the finals of the double trap shooting competition at the Markopoulos shooting range. Rathore's silver is the first ever individual medal in the Olympic Games since Independence. The 34-year-old Army Major scored a total of 179 points to finish second in the double-trap shooting event at the Markopoulo Shooting Centre. Rathore, who was fifth going into the six-man final, kept his nerves to pip his closest competitor, Wang Zhang of China, by one point in a tense 25-round medal decider. The gold went to Sheikh Ahmed Al-Maktoum (189) of United Arab Emirates. Earlier in the day, Rathore stormed into the finals with rounds of 46, 43 and 46 for a total of 135, which put him in a tie for fourth place. THE INTELLIGENT MUST MAKE CONCESSIONS! |

Main soch hi rahi thi, ki koi Olympics nahin dekhta kya?? It's a shame we aren't a sporting country... rather a medal winning country... but chalo ek Silver to mila. I was hoping to follow Soccer... but... let's see what I can manage in the last few days, warna closing ceremony to hain hi hain! The opening ceremony was very artistic and I love their stadium. More an art fan than sports I guess

I must say I was very pleasantly surprised at the performance of the Indian women's team in the 4 x 400 relay in the semi-final. It's a pity that they could not repeat this pleasing performance in the final.
