Hello Friends,

We have seen in the past few days that our DJs host such lovely programs and come up with wonderful compilations. To make it more organized and prepared, I request our DJs to inform in advance of any special programs that they wish to host on HF Radio. With this the listeners can also be prepared in advance to listen to these special programs.

Based on the program schedules, I'll update this topic with the upcoming events.

If you would like to host a program, please give the scheule details atleast 3 days in advance. So that I can advertise the show throughout the board for every member's benefit. If you are scheduling a program, please reply with the following details:

1. Program Name
2. Program Description
3. Duration
4. Your Location (Country/City)
5. Schedule date/time of the program ( in your local time )

Example: If I would like to host a program titled, Bhajan Sandhya at 7 PM on 27th October 2005 and I stay in India, Bangalore I would provide the details as

Program Name: Bhajan Sandhya
Program Description: Bhajans from hindi films
Duration: 60 Minutes
Your Location: Bangalore/India
Schedule time of the program: 27th October 2005 / 7 PM

How do the listeners map the DJ's program time with their local time?

Go to http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedform.html and enter the date and time of the program, and select the DJ's location. Click on Calculate fixed time. This would list the time of the program in most countries. Check the date and time in your country.

I would like to hear "Best of S N tripathi" <---- My first request
I dont have too many songs composed by him and I would like to hear some of his gems. (If we can get a commentary during the songs with anecdotes and such, its even better)

Amin Sayani has completed 60 years in radio, and last month saw the start of a fresh innings. The popular film song countdown, Geetmala, which he has been associated with for the last 50 years, is back on Vividh Bharati every Sunday night.

Now called Colgate Cibaca Geetmala, the programme comprises evergreen classics and current hits from Hindi films. The first episode was aired across 22 Vividh Bharati stations on February 18.

And it is Mr Sayani's stylised anchoring, that spawned countless imitations over the years, which is deemed responsible for the show's popularity. Binaca Geetmala, for that is how it began, was so popular it ran for 39 years on Radio Ceylon after it was started in 1952. "In fact, during its peak from the '50s through the '70s, listenership was estimated to be anywhere from 9-20 crores," says Mr Sayani. "Nobody bought radio sets that did not receive Radio Ceylon! I received feedback from all over Asia and even the east coast of Africa." Geetmala subsequently shifted to AIR's Vividh Bharati station.

Mr Sayani was initiated into radio at the age of seven by his brother, veteran broadcaster Hameed Sayani. "He was also a stage actor and director, and pioneered ad films and documentaries in India. Besides, he was a magician of international repute!" Mr Sayani informs us. "Of course, Hameedbhai broadcast in English, and I got into Hindi. My advantage was that I learnt Hindustani, which is a mix of simple Hindi and Urdu that everyone understands."

Mr Sayani produces and exports radio programmes to West Asia, the US, the UK and Canada, among other countries. "Of course, a very significant task has been to produce programmes for All India Radio (AIR). We have been doing spots, ads and jingles for years, and have done a lot of work for the primary channel, what we call `Mumbai A' here. Like this series, `Colgate Sangeet Sitare', which ran for two years. Then there was a series on AIDS, `Swanash', which was broadcast over 30 primary channels in the Hindi belt."

Of course, what most listeners cannot forget is his Behnon aur bhaiyon! refrain on Geetmala. The programme was awarded the Radio Campaign of the Century award by the Advertising Club of Bombay in 1999. And it is the only show to have set up listeners' radio clubs that contribute to the song ratings. These clubs are sought to be revived now that the programme is back on air.

Khobi:

"Binaca Geetmala" was the most popular radio program from the 1950's till the early 90's . It was presented by a broadcaster by the name of Amin Sayani and his style made him legendary along with the stupendous popularity of the radio-show. The program featured the most popular songs of the week, leading up to the song at the top of the popularity chart. HFMs fan made it a point to listen to this program broadcast every Wednesday from 8 to 9 PM from Radio Ceylon. (Remember, there was no TV in India till the mid/late 70's).

Good thing you brought this to my notice. Daylight Savings Time ends with the last weekend of October.

For Oct. 26, my calculation would hold good: 10:30hrs (local time) + 9:30hrs = 20:00hrs., i.e. 8 PM in India.

For Nov 02, I'll change it to 09:30hrs (local time) + 10:30hrs = 20:00hrs., i.e. 8 PM. in India.

Please change the Program Schedule accordingly. Thanks!

Actually, it's interesting to remember (or at least as I recollect), although the program was sponsored by CIBA, the manufacturers of Binaca toothpaste, they did not peddle their product on the program! As a kid, though a regular listener of the program, I did not like the taste of Binaca toothpaste (it was not sweet). I remember another toothpaste, FORHANS, which similarly was "un-sweet". The sweet-tasting COLGATE was preferable. My dad did not listen to HFM, let alone Binaca Geetala, but he always bought Binaca toothpaste and that's what we were constrained to use!

What abt ppl further to the east, Unni-ji !! Looks like another night-out for me !!!

While HF-ers come up with innovative compilations in HFM, I'd love to listen to some regional compilations ... anything regional, no problem. I wouldnt go out of my way to listen to regional gems on my own ... .. if someone could take the trouble to complile and present a radio prog, I'll be happy to tune in Anyone game ?

HF radio and these special radio programs are brilliant concepts, Pradeep ... its literally changed the way I browse and visit HF ! I hope having a good balance of regional / classical radio progs as well shouldnt pose any problems Probably a few guidelines could be laid down, if need be.

jet audio - havent tried ... what is the playlist for it?? or the url?

So that leaves me with very little choice - matlab crashing winamp.. - I must remember not to click on mp3 and try to play it.. that is when the probs arises.. I have to drag the file into the player to play it.. for which I have to start the winamp from the winamp - agent in the sys tray

So what's on for 12:30 EST time, or say 16:30 GMT ? Is PA doing his broadcast which was missed earlier due to radio was occupied by someone.... or Pradeep is continuing with his Hanste Hanste program.

Also those who have not booked the slot and picks up the radio time when its free, please make sure you give up whenever you approaching close to schedule show.

Also I dont knwo if everyone agrees or not, everyone should limit the streaming to 1 hour max , if there is another show next or not. That way we wont run into issues of he / she never gives up the slot , etc. Lets work by courtsey and modesty than by making rules for simplest thing

Those who cannot listen to the Radio during its broadcast time , here are all the files that are going to be played on radio. You need to unzip them into a SINGLE folder and sort them by file name ASC.... and add all this files into you fav media player's play list.

This file is PASSWORD protected... meaning , you can download it but cannot listen the program right now. I am uploading so that everyone gets chance to download it in time, before the schedule.... Please download and save this RAR file.

I will post password to unrar them , 5 mins before the program, i.e. 11:30 EST ... right in this same POST.

I have added one file to double click after you un compressed them , its called Radio Program Playlist.m3u with extension ".m3u" ..... Just double click this at 11:30 EST , to start your computer with same radio show we all we be listening live... can also join HF Chat , as I bet the whole GANG would be there ...

My Mistake Khobi. Your Saturday is actually Sunday for me. So Bawra's show comes first and yours comes the following day. So no probs.

Khobi, to cut down on confusion I've written all program timings in GMT zone. Hence your shows are on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Did you want me to replay Part 2 for you some time more convenient? If you could let me know when, I'd do that. I haven't committed to a weekly schedule yet, I don't see myself doing that either

Farishta is one of the stations (for old hindi music) by worldspace satellite radio. (My source of old hindi prior to HF).
They have many lovely channels, and the best part is.. no ads. Their RJ's dont talk a lot, and often talk only sense and nothing else.

Videos.. can be a hassel. Why?

To stream video from your machine.. may not be a good idea... unless you have an 1MBPS line and a really fast computer. You can anytime give me the files. I'll convert them into nsv format, which I can upload to the server and stream from there.

It just doent end there.

Viewers who wants to see the video should have atleast more than 256kbps connectivity, or the video quality would be very very bad.

I did tune into this briefly, she repeated a song 2wice, which I didnt like so I logged off when I continued the stream there was a Rafi song bein played... 'aap yunhi agar humse milte rahe to ek din pyar ho jaye ga', I caught the ending of this. Then she started playin new songs so I took off again. Any other Rafi songs in there? More importantly, did she speak?

YM theres just this one Rafi song in my show i did try to get all the singers so my show wont be called biased or something... and i spoke a bit say few seconds... every alternate song is a new one and there are two KK songs... well im telling this because if there are few ppl who have bandwidth problem like me should know what they are d/ling

Shiva..ni, I've used 24 hr clock in all the schedules.. so it is 8.30 AM IST.. which is 8PM Calgary time... which is 3:00 GMT.

Just stick to the time, don't look at the date. If you see this link tomorrow, you will see it as Thursday. It will be impossible for me to manually update it everyday to keep up with the days.

May be firefox is strict about proper closing and opening of tags. There might be some problem with related to this.

PST = Pacific Standard Time which is the timezone that California
is in.
As for the song choices, let me see. I really want to focus on her range
rather than specific songs. But I am going to try and stay away from

HaaN uske liye bandaroN ki zaroorat hoti hai, billiyoN ki nahi.
Although the billis and billas that I have known are pretty
adept at scaling walls. Pata nahi is billi ki kya problem hai.


Visuja already explained all about that in his note. To make matters
worse, we have EDT and PDT in addition to EST and PST. During the
summers the clocks change by an hour and so we have "Daylight
Savings Time" and hence the "D" in EDT and PDT. We just set our
clocks back an hour a few weeks back since summer is over.

IST represents a via-media and was deliberately adopted as an 'artificial' standard time for the country, otherwise there would be an hour's difference between say, Mumbai and Kolkata. Hence the odd 1/2 hour.
