Was there a planet between Mars and Jupiter at some time?
There is far too much circumstantial evidence that there must have been one.

The orbits of the planets have a geometric sequence in terms of distance from the sun. But just after Mars, the distance to Jupiter is TWICE the distance it should have been.

And in the place where there should have been another planet, there IS an orbit. The asteroids follow this orbit. Asteroids are millions of pieces of rock and dust. Is it that they are the remains of a planet that was there, and has blown up?

Were there an advanced species there? Did they get too advanced for their own good?

Did some of them manage to space travel?

Are we their descendants?

Why are we the weakest species on this planet? Why are we so different in all aspects from the other animals on earth?

And being the weakest physically, how come we have evolved way beyond all of them? Logically we should have been the last to evolve...

10th, 11th and 12th ki baat teek hai Lata, but I read somewhere that Pluto our 9th isnt really a planet!!

Phew!

Here is something I got from the net itself .

March 2004 - A 10th Planet was named this month - Sedna after the Inuit Goddess of the Oceans.

A planet named Nibiru - Planet X - was thought by many people to be returning in the 21st century - but in truth Nibiru will not return.

The Nibiruans allegedly landed on Earth, colonized it, mining the Earth for gold - [metaphor for alchemy - the transmutation of consciousness] - and other minerals, who establishing a spaceport in what today is the Iraq-Iran region - [Interesting that we went to war in that area] - linked to Sumer - and lived in a kind of idealistic society as a small colony. These aliens allegedly created a human slave-race to work their mines, farms, and other enterprises. They allegedly created Man, Homo Sapiens, through genetic manipulation with themselves and ape man Homo Erectus.

<will be back with more > still reading...

The number of planets has always been an issue since many years.

The ancients who were extremely strong in astronomy (they could space-travel too), had such an amazing knowledge of the subject that we are still trying to catch up with them.

Aryabhatt wrote the most exhaustive book on astronomy circa 500 A.D., at the age of 21. He gave orbits and distances of planets down to 2 decimals, which the most advanced equipment today is only corroborating!! And where did he get the knowledge from?

He would candidly admit that none of it was his discovery. He was just compiling the knowledge known to everybody at that time!!

Even he never mentioned planets beyond saturn.

Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are very recent findings. Of these, pluto has an orbit that's out of sync with other planets. If the other planets have orbits parallel to the horizontal, pluto is at about 30 degrees to the horizontal.

Besides, pluto has a twin!! There is another body that goes around pluto, called 'charon' (pronounced karan). But Charon being just slightly smaller than pluto, it actually happens that they both go around each other.

Astronomers have often debated the inclusion of pluto as a solar planet, because of its extremely small size and it's odd orbit. In fact, last year they even debated on removing it's status as a planet.

And on the same note, it has been debated whether to call charon as the tenth planet...

It is strongly believed that pluto+charon are Kuiper Belt objects that got pulled into the sun's gravitational field and now masquerade as planets.

For info, let me tell you about the seemingly meticulous 'neatness' in the solar system wink2.gif
The first four planets, mercury, venus, earth and mars are rocky planets. after that come Jupiter and saturn which are essentially just gas (and ice). They are so light-weight, that if saturn were to fall into the Indian Ocean, it would float !!!!!

To separate the rocky planets from the gaseous ones, there is the asteroid belt. Neat, na? wink2.gif

After the gas planets, at a fair distance is the Kuiper belt which is a loose ring of ice bodies and frozen gas blobs. The comets come from the Kuiper belt.

It is believed that Uranus, neptune and pluto come from this Kuiper belt. They are all essentially ice.

Incidentally, ALL the planets outside mars have rings around them !!!

Jupiter (yessss) has them, saturn (obviously) has them. So do neptune and uranus!!

Pluto of course is the odd man out!

And why don't we see these rings? Well, jupiter's rings are gossamer, so they are not visible to the unaided eye. Neptune and uranus have coal-black rings. So we can't see them sad1.gif

The latest in the line is Sedna, which is also from the Kuiper belt. Sedna is a planetoid, meaning it has the properties of a planet, but is much smaller in size. Besides, it's orbit is a bit 'loose', meaning, it will sometimes be very close and sometimes very far.

Nibiru is a figment of imagination. Nibiru returning? where did it go?? If it doesn't follow the solar system rules, it isn't our planet.

I remember reading about that almost 25 years ago. It was speculated that there is a planet in a giant orbit. This orbit is around another star. But that orbit intersects our solar system. And whenever the planet traverses across our solar system, it upsets the rhythm and balance of our solar system. This results in unexpected physical changes on earth, such as floods, avalanches, volcanic eruptions, catastrophes, earthquakes, etc.

Frankly, though this does sound plausible, we do not have scientific evidence of this 'planet'.

But to dismiss such speculation for lack of evidence also would be incorrect. After all there are too many things we do not know yet...

Self - belief is the most potent force.

I read a couple of chapters from Chariots of the Gods. Amazing book !! The city of Tiahuanaco in Peru must be a very interesting place to visit. For that matter any place in south America will be interesting. [ Nimii, how about this place for ur next vacation wink2.gif ] Kept dreaming about it the whole night.

I play play station games with my son [ he, ofcourse is 1000 times better than me ]. One such game [Ratchet and Clank 1 ] was very interesting. You have to complete the missions in one plante then u can go to the next planet......the plantes shown are just amazing. One planet Jowai is just like Hawai....the another planet Oroxon, green plante.....its full of gas and gooey stuff, then there is Gasper the lava planet....etc.........its interesting because they have shown that in all these weather conditions there are some or the other type of living organism.......amazing robots..............I keep wondering cud there really be planets like these? How imaginative. smile1.gif

Yes Nimii, for lack of a better definition, it is called a satellite. But the size isn't so small, and that's what is the bone of contention.

For ppl who havent read much about Charon.. here is some info -
Charon ( "KAIR en" ) is Pluto's only known satellite:

orbit: 19,640 km from Pluto
diameter: 1172 km
mass: 1.90e21 kg

Charon is named for the mythological figure who ferried the dead across the River Acheron into Hades (the underworld).

(Though officially named for the mythological figure, Charon's discoverer was also naming it in honor of his wife, Charlene. Thus, those in the know pronounce it with the first syllable sounding like 'shard' ("SHAHR en").

Charon was discovered in 1978 by Jim Christy. Prior to that it was thought that Pluto was much larger since the images of Charon and Pluto were blurred together.

Charon is unusual in that it is the largest moon with respect to its primary planet in the Solar System (a distinction once held by Earth's Moon). Some prefer to think of Pluto/Charon as a double planet rather than a planet and a moon.

Charon's radius is not well known. JPL's value of 586 has an error margin of +/-13, more than two percent. Its mass and density are also poorly known.

Pluto and Charon are also unique in that not only does Charon rotate synchronously but Pluto does, too: they both keep the same face toward one another. (This makes the phases of Charon as seen from Pluto very interesting.)

Charon's composition is unknown, but its low density (about 2 gm/cm3) indicates that it may be similar to Saturn's icy moons (i.e. Rhea). Its surface seems to be covered with water ice. Interestingly, this is quite different from Pluto.

Unlike Pluto, Charon does not have large albedo features, though it may have smaller ones that have not been resolved.

It has been proposed that Charon was formed by a giant impact similar to the one that formed Earth's Moon.

It is doubtful that Charon has a significant atmosphere.

My GOD !! (or the more intelligent aliens referred here!)

How do you guys get time for all this stuff ! and participate in a myriad of forums .. and Nimmi being a moderator on top of that !

Just spent last 30 mins reading the theories.. definitely interesting and worth a read !

bow.gif bow.gif bow.gif bow.gif bow.gif bow.gif bow.gif

Point is we humans really dont know about anything much to conclusively conclude (ahem !!) any theory as the TRUTH !

well.. arent we all in the quest of the same TRUTH ! .. be it science, religion or any other endeavour.

Great work Mandrake .....

Hope i cud contribute to it sometime .....

Thanx Vivek for dropping in here thumbs-up.gif
And I am sure you CAN contribute smile1.gif
After all, we haven't yet even touched Atlantis...
Haven't discussed THE Edgar Cayce....
And haven't spoken about that mysterious figure that keeps cropping up in all the unexpected places - the year 10,500 B.C. !!!
Nor have we opined on the great Orion Mystery...

Yup, there is far too much unknown.

And yes, we are all truth seekers. I don't think we have the certainty of uncovering the truth, but I am a die-hard optimist.

After all, did any of us believe that the Berlin wall would ever come down? Or Russia go to pieces so willingly?

I far one believe that we might JUST stumble upon the truth...

...whatever that is thumbs-up.gif

Haha Mandrake,

You got me clean bowled there .... The first step to knowing is to know that you dont know something ! (Did that make any sense !?) :-)

all the facts that you just mentioned, I didnt even know there was something to know about them !

Would like to know more about them..... Any links / references ?

Vivek, that was a surprise smile1.gif Not heard about ANY of these? I am sure you are pulling my leg smile1.gif

Anyways, trusting that you did indeed not know about these things, here's a brief intro:
1) Atlantis: first mentioned by Plato (in fact described in great detail). A continent that had an extremely advanced civilization. It broke up and sank into the ocean about 10,000 years before Plato's time. Every researcher worth his salt, as well as every sci-fi/other-fi lover has been hunting for it high and low. Countless books/articles have been written on this subject.

2) Edgar Cayce: America's home grown seer. An ordinary man with an ordinary existence till mid-teens, when he fell unconscious while playing. Then, in a trance, he told what should be done to revive him. Eventually became America's biggest genuine seer who could see the past and present. Predicted his death day and died at the given time in 1945. Each and every 'reading' of his has been properly documented right from the earlier ones. Makes fascinating reading. Gives one toooo much to think over.

3) 10,500 B.C.: Will need elaboration, but quite a few events were back-tracked and traced to this era. The masterplan of the pyramids was drawn up then. The sphinx was constructed then. The temple complex of Angkor Vat in Cambodia was planned then. Egypt was geologically a wet and fertile place then. The vedas also allude to this time in some references.

4) The Orion Mystery: It has been established that the pyramids of egypt are an exact mapping of the Orion constellation. The locations of the pyramids w.r.t. each other is exactly as per the locations of the 'Hunter's Belt' in the Orion. Also, when superimposed to a matching scale, these stars fit exactly on the main three pyramids, with the Milky Way superimposing exactly on the Nile!! (FYI, the Orion constellation is located just at the edge of the milky way when viewed by the naked eye).

Does that arouse your interest? camera.gif

I had heard that there were some mysteries surrounding Atlantis and 10,500 BC. Had never heard of Edgar Cayce !! And to think I had been in the US for 3 years !... well... sad1.gif

Abt pyramids and the Orion constellation, I had watched a couple of programes on National Geographic / Discovery about it and had marvelled how they had modelled their pyramid layout with respect to the Orion Belt. But had just taken it as a fact that the Egyptians (like our ancestors) were quite intelligent to have built the pyriamids in that fashion. in fact, orion is one of the most easily visible (rather identifiable) constellation in the northern hemisphere i believe ? from my early school days, had managed to identify orion and had even taught my parents to identify it !!! well, those were the days when i wanted to become a NASA scientist ! (ahem !!!!!) ... ab lab mein experiments karte karte equiment tod - phod raha hoon !! smile1.gif tongue.gif

Anyways, back to hte subject, any breakthroughs on how the Egyptians managed to do that ? Probably they had a well developed knowledge of astronomy / astrology ?

I believe in those ancient times, both astronomy and astrology were intervowen as a single branch.. Is that right ? its only now that one represents 'fact' while the other 'fiction' !

10,500 B.C : I remember a passing reference to this date on some TV program... is that the earliest evidence of existence of man (as a different species) ?

Atlantis : I just kind of thought it was the 'Western' / Biblical equivalent of the Indian sunken city of Dwarka ...... is that an appropriate analogy ? What is the status of Dwarka with regard to archeological findings ?

You yourself are quite knowledgeable and sharp .... yrself and hitesh form a great team in the philosophical forum thumbs-up.gif bow.gif
