Entry God

Gods are what man makes them. Gods always are manipulated to fit certain beliefs viewed by man. No one is enlightened by a god without hearing about him first. A great quote summing up what i am talking about is this:

“If I take a lamp and shine it toward the wall, a bright spot will appear on the wall. The lamp is our search for truth ... for understanding. Too often, we assume that the light on the wall is God, but the light is not the goal of the search, it is the result of the search. The more intense the search, the brighter the light on the wall.

The brighter the light on the wall, the greater the sense of revelation upon seeing it. Similarly, someone who does not search — who does not bring a lantern — sees nothing.”

“What we perceive as God is the by-product of our search for God. It may simply be an appreciation of the light ... pure and unblemished ... not understanding that it comes from us. Sometimes we stand in front of the light and assume that we are the center of the universe — God looks astonishingly like we do — or we turn to look at our shadow and assume that all is darkness. If we allow ourselves to get in the way, we defeat the purpose, which is to use the light of our search to illuminate the wall in all its beauty and in all its flaws; and in so doing, better understand the world around us.”

Catch, where's the other side of the coin?

Would like to know your thoughts on what you'd be/say/do if you actually came across god and got convinced about his existence...

Does it matter, Mandrake. If the hypothetical god does exist will it make any difference to my life? In what way? Should I while away my time on this earth in a search for things that are imaginary & so called attainable in the hereafter? Or rather should I not make an effort in leading a good life as a decent & kind human being. Should I not direct my effort for sparing a thought for those around me & direct whatever little goodness that I may possess in caring for them. Should I also not spare a thought for the weak, for the deprived. Yes, i do need to pursue my profession, my goals, my ambitions etc apart from this. But do I require a god for all this?
For how a person looks physically, genetic coding may be responsible. For how an individual behaves, you don't need a divine coding, the environment takes care of that. You combine these two together & you have adaptation. Take a new born infant & isolate it from all human contact & you will find out that he will not only not learn about God & religion but it would not learn even to talk.
I don't belong to the class of people who don't practice what they preach. I do have the courage of conviction to try & lead life the way I profess. For sure, I ain't a hypocrite. My thoughts are solely mine, I am not part of any group or organisation that promotes aethism, religion, spirituality or whatever. I strongly believe that people should be left to believe what they think is good for them as long as it does not infringe on the peace & tranquility of others. For me religion, spirituality & such issues are anathema. I do have a hearty laugh at those who are ensconced in a belief system that is irrational, illogical & is totally devoid of facts & reasoning.

The topics of god's existence & the relevance of religion, as well as evolution & creationism are very interesting & i will post at leisure in these pages. It is a never ending debate.
I believe the world will end before people agree on how it began. Shall we 'Go to Heaven for the climate, Hell for the company'?

"The moment we want to believe something, we suddenly see all the arguments for it, and become blind to the arguments against it."
"Reading made Don Quixote a gentleman, but believing what he read made him mad. "
"You'll never have a quiet world till you knock the patriotism out of the human race. "
