Friends:
Just learnt (by fluke) about Jagjit Singh's version of some oldies (sung by the Legends). I mean, these days music shops around the world are flooded by remixes of RD's, LP's, Madan Mohan's songs sung by every Joe-Schmoe that are growing by leaps and bounds at every living room, at every house. And, some so-called young budding musicians/arrangers are arranging the tunes to their own taste and palate. But Jagjit Singh-ji too??? A stalwart ghazal maestro like JS singing 'Kahin dur jab dhin dhal jaaye', and 'Dukhi man mere'........ yet with remix music??? Check out this link (http://www.musicindiaonline.com/music/l/0201041A), and tell me if this is cold-hearted plagiarizing or not??? Aweful music, even more aweful rendition by JS (IMO, that is). Listen to 'Dukhi man mere', and you will crave for the original like never before. What a day! |

Damn sad,
I dont even prefer to listen the deteriorated versions and give my heart more pain........, May there be better original musicians in Indian Music Industry. I know there is no comparison of Jagjit Singh with Guru...,. though Jagjit Singh is good in his own way, but no, I wont even try listening to such songs and pray for Boycott of all such songs! Jai Gurudev! |

Now Jagjeet Singh will remix his own ghazals. The man's potential has come to an end. So he is trying gimmicks to survive.

Hi,
Yup...I too was unfortunate enough to come across Jagjit's version of the Oldies. Wasen't that bad...I just ended up deleting all his songs from my computer, as a mark of respect............, for the old singers. Maybe Jagjit is trying to be like Lata or Asha. Lata did the Shradhanjali thing..and Asha also did a tribute album (i think). So, all of a sudden, JagjitJi feels he is deserving enoug to sing the timeless classics. He makes me sick!! (and so does Anuradha Paudwal). He is out of his mind if he thinks ppl will listen to his tribute to the legends. Only legends can pay tribute to legends. Anyhow, it gives me an oppurtunity to hate him. I wanted to hate him earlier, but he is actually good with the Ghazals and all. Sani. - Music Has No Language -

Only had the courage to try out the Talat covers. And that too, I closed after the first initial half a minute. Not being a big Kishore fan, I can still feel the abhorrence ensconced in the replies of each interactor on this subject. Specially when the matter involves such a nauseating tribute to the legends by a mere mortal of such low caliber. And that too with the remixed music, please. This deserved to be the unreleased album by Jagjit Singh, probably to be brought out some time after his untimely death by a sane-oldies-fan heard him record the album in studio. zindagi ne kar diya, jab bhi udaas aa gaye ghabra ke hum, manzil ke paas sar jhukaaya, sar jhuka kar ro diye |

N, Have you heard Sonu Nigam's covers of Mohammad Rafi. The remixed music is sometimes so disrespectful to the original tune, you want to puke. I remember this song ... Hum Tumse Juda Hokay, Marr Jayein Ge Ro Ro Ke. Originally done by Usha Khanna. I'll try and find an online sample or something. zindagi ne kar diya, jab bhi udaas aa gaye ghabra ke hum, manzil ke paas sar jhukaaya, sar jhuka kar ro diye |

Anuradha Paudwal singing Lata-bai numbers or Sonu Nigam singing Rafi-saab number or, for that matter, Abhijit singing Guru numbers, is okay with me. Not only are they trying to pay a tribute to the playback legends, the untampered music arrangement also pays tribute to the equally legendary music directors. (though some electronic instruments substituting for the violins/mandolins/guitars are a small deterrant)
It is the re-mixed versions, where un-necessary chattering (I guess it's called rap!) between the stanzas which mess things up. And to think that music directors of yore composed such wonderful interlude music! My opinions, entirely. Regards-Archie. |

Latest murder of the song of Guru is
Arre deewano mujeh pehachaano.. featuring Jackie Shroff! Song sung by DJ Aqeel or is it juz the rap part of it! - who is he? He is Hrithik Roshan's co-brother. Ab samajh mein aaraha hai where he managed to get some live recording of Guru's to be played in the remixes N |
