Call of the Valley needs no introduction! An album that set milestones and benchmark in Indian Classical Music and World Music. A symphony in Indian Classical Music, the genius of three brilliant artistes, their instruments and talent. Flute, Santoor and Guitar - Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Pandit Shivkumar Sharma and Shri Brij Bhushan Kabra.

This was yet another musical album i grew up listening to. Waking up to the melodies of Raag Ahir Bhairav and Pahadi wafting through the air in the wee hours of the the morning. Playing this album became a ritual at home. Listening to Santoor transported me to Kashmir every time...The LP cover of this album is what inspired me as a child to start learning to paint - hills, landscapes , rivers...

Call of the valley truly paints a picture of Kashmir - with her mystical mountains and valleys, laden with tall freen pine trees and the Chinar, the sheep and the cattle wending their way on the slopes, grazing away... the sun kissed and snow clad peaks of the mighty Himalayas.

An intresting read in the Wikipedia : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Call_of_the_Valley
Truly agree that this is one album one must listen to and own in their lifetime smile1.gif

Joy, sorrow, tears, lamentation, laughter — to all these music gives voice, but in such a way that we are transported from the world of unrest to a world of peace, and see reality in a new way, as if we were sitting by a mountain lake and contemplating hills and woods and clouds in the tranquil and fathomless water.

Without music life would be a mistake

"An album that set milestones and benchmark in Indian Classical Music and World Music."

Could not have said it better than that! What a classic album this is!

A science that does not deliver us to the portals of metaphysics is a failed science and a religion that does not embrace physics is not grounded in reality.

There is another album that came not much after Call of the Valley in which Shivji and Hariji create their magic once again. It's a little known LP called "Yugalbandi" and has a lovely Jhinjhoti, equally delectable Mishra Piloo and the inimitable Bhatiyali dhun. Here it is:
