Film: Jaali note (1960)
*ring: Dev Anand, Madhubala, Om Prakash, Helen, Madan Puri Music: O P Nayyar Lyrics: Anjaan, Raja Mehndi Ali Khan This is a fantastic soundtrack by OPN. Every song is in his typical inimitable style and the singing by both Asha and Rafi is par excellence. I picked up this video cassette on a whim several years back and got lucky in getting a good copy. All the songs have gone from video tape to cassette (long before I ever had access to a CD recorder) and now to CD. So the quality is a bit suspect. 2 songs were missing from the film, one being the Asha/Shamshad duet that has been talked about in other forums, and the other is an Asha/Rafi duet ("NigaahoN ne pheNka hai"). I found the latter on the web a few years back and downloaded it. So I am uploading all the songs except the Asha/Shamshad duet. Finally, a request. THere is an alternate version of the song "Chaand zard zard hai". That version begins with the lyrics "Raat sard sard hai, chaand zard zard hai". I am looking for that version. I will repeat the request when I upload the song as well. So here goes. |

Track 2:
Mohammad Rafi - Choori ban kaaNTa ban o my son Talk about stupid lyrics and this song is way up there in my opinion. But the tune and the singing are the only things that allow you to forget the words and enjoy the song. |

Track 5:
Asha Bhonsle, Mohammad Rafi - Sach kehta hooN bahu haseeN ho I don't know if this is my favorite song in this film or if it is the next one. But this ranks way up there in terms of the Asha/Rafi/OPN combo. |

Track 6:
Asha Bhonsle, Mohammad Rafi - Chaand zard zard hai This is the song I was talking about. The version in the film has the line "Chaand zard zard hai" repeated twice in the mukhDa. However, the other version has the mukhDa beginning with "Raat sard sard hai, chaand zard zard hai". Not sure if the censors decided that the words had to change or if they were modified for some other reason. I am looking for the other version. It is apparent that the "Raat sard sard hai" was recorded first because at one point in the film version, Asha makes a mistake and corrects herself. So it sounds like "Raand zard zard hai". |

Track 7:
Asha Bhonsle, Mohammad Rafi - NigaahoN ne pheNka hai Both Asha and Rafi seem to be having so much fun singing this song. I can almost hear both of them smile through the mukhDa. |

Thanks a ton SB for these songs--am having a great time listening to them. Each song is familiar including the Rafi solo which means I must have possessed this album as a kid. Anyway they are so light and enjoyable. Made my day!!!

Thanks, Sangeetbhakt.
You've made tons of people happy. As CM wrote, this was an elusive one. If you stop trying to make sense of it all, you'll be less confused. Reality is an illusion.
