In her early career, Mala Sinha primarily worked in Bengali mythological films like Jog Biyog (1953) and Dhuli (1954).

She got her first Hindi film assignment through prominent singer Geeta Dutt who was charmed by Mala Sinha, who had come to Bombay for the shoot of one of her Bengali films. Mala Sinha was introduced to filmmaker Kidar Sharma, who too was making his debut as a director. The film was called Rangeen Raatien
Mala Sinha was said to have a very good voice and at some occasions also sang for All India Radio. Ironically she was never allowed to sing even for herself in Hindi films
Geeta Dutt continued to endorse her in Hindi films and soon her husband actor-director Guru Dutt cast her in the leading role in his film Pyaasa. The film till date is included amongst the classic works of Indian cinema.
Being from Nepali origin, Mala Sinha worked in a Nepali film as well in 1966. This was the only Nepali film she worked in. The film was titled Maitighar.
She soon got married to C P Lohani, her costar from Maitighar. Lohani was based in Kathmandu for his business. Mala Sinha stayed back in Mumbai as she continued working in films even after her marriage
Mala Sinha never ever won a Filmfare Trophy, though she was nominated 4 times for films like Dhool Ka Phool (1959), Bahu Rani (1963), Jahan Ara (1964), and Himalay Ki God Mein (1965).

Personally, I have always liked Mala Sinha on-screen. I also like her acting-style, though often I find her melo-dramatic. JAHAN ARA was the first film that floored me - more likely because the character she played was of a very obedient daughter who sacrificed love in order to serve her imprisoned father, Shah Jahan. By the way, the grave of Jahan Ara is in Delhi, in the compound of the Dargah of Hazrat Nizamudin Auliya if I am not mistaken.

In DHOOL KA PHOOL she was superb and easily dominated all her co-stars. But if she lost the best performance award, then that was sad.

She looked really CHAAND SI MEHBOOBA in HIMALAYA KI GOD MEIN.

Somehow, her one movie I cannot forget is AASRA I don't for what reason. Maybe it was a cindrella-like role who does the household chores while the daughter (Ameeta) of the family is always pampered.
I cannot forget her singing TUM KAUN HO BATAAO TUMHAARA NAAM HAI KYA, NAAM HAI KYA...(Lata).

In my opinion, Mala Sinha has not been given a fair deal. I feel she has been ignored undeservingly. I wonder if that is because she once sought the help of Bala Saheb Thakeray for her daughter's involvement with Nadeem (music director). What a great blow for the actress that her daughter just blew her film career. Mala Sinha needs to be recognised by the film industry - and I say this with all the conviction of a movie-goer who always enjoyed her roles in the movies.

I like Mala Sinha a lot. She had such a calm facade and play those roles so convincingly. I too feel that she has been left out / ignored by the film people. It is also unfortunate that she was not allowed to sing for her songs..atleast some of them.
My favorite films of her...would be Anpadh, Ujala, Maya...etc. Can never forget the divine way she looked when singing Aap ki nazron ne samjha..with debonair Dharmendra. In maya her chemistry with Dev Anand was simply superb. The best part is the grace with which she carried on screen, even in rags and tags. Gifted with big eyes and a dazzling smile..she weaves magic on the viewers for sure.
She had a fine ability to lip-sync the songs and when the camera zooms in for close up shots, she was brilliant. posting a few pictures of her.

Zarina Wahab
She made her debut with (1974)Ishq Ishq Ishq,in presence of actrsses like Zeenat and Shabana she got little scope do,even film could not do well.Later she came with Rajshri's Chitchor.Film got success at the box office.Later she got some guest apperance kinda stuff in other projects. But in Rajshree's film she was getting Scope. As its mentioned earlier that only Rakhee and Jaya Bacchan were going well in serious kinda stuff.Zarina was not even having glamourous look. She did Rajshree's Gharonda,Sawan Ko Aane Do,Naiya,Gopal Krishna,Dard E Dil.But she got only critical acclaim in most of movies. In the meantime she married necomer Aditiya Pancholi and started accepting Supporting roles in films like Hum Naujwan,Amrit,Adhikar etc. After the birth of her daughter Sana and son Suraj she took break from the films. Her husband is almost 5-years younger than she, and their turbulent marriage has been in the gossip columns, regarding her husband's temper and rumors of infidelity.Yet, their marriage persevered and they are still together.[5]She made comeback with TV Seriels. She recently did films like Dil Maange More and Kisna too.

May be you dont know-She got Filmfare Best Actress Nominee for Gharonda. She did some Malyalam Films too.

One of the first Indians to grace the cover of the Asian Special Issue of the American magazine 'Life', as well as the pack leader to replace international leading ladies as the new pin up girl, Begum Para has bid this material world her final good bye.

The yesteryear's actress who passed away in her sleep yesterday has played many prominent and (for her time) bold roles through her career. Well known playing the role of a vamp in films during the 50's, Begum Para was last seen in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film Saawariya.

From all of us here at Bollywood Hungama we bid her a solemn good bye and offer our condolences to her near and dear ones.

Wow! Thank you for those pix of Zaheera/Zaahira. I'm sure you devoted lots of time to find them. I had a lots of problem when I needed them for some other purpose. Same with the Zahida pix.

Somehow, Zahira has always attracted me with her sort of looks. Hence, a pity that she did not click in Bollywood. She could have been a Parveen Babi. As we know, she had throat problems and her voice became hoarse.

Jassi, what's that story about Sabia being traumatised by Rajesh Khanna?

In your list, Tarla is missing. Tarla, who acted opposite Dharmendra in SHOLA AUR SHABNAM.

Then, Bela Bose. She acted in many movies. I specially liked her in POONAM KI RAAT. She has two beautiful Asha Bhonsle's songs to her.

Fariyal - I think she was a Miss India. Such a beautiful body. Her kind was ahead of her times. She was the heroine opposite Shashi Kapoor in BIRADARI. Later, she was reduced to playing vampish roles, e.g. JEWEL THIEF, APRADH.

Vijay Chowdhary, Parveen Chaudhary and Nishi were perhaps mentioned earlier.

Then, Chitra. I guess she still lives around the Bandra area. She played heroines in many C-Grade movies. I especially liked her Zimbo, Alam Ara, Hatim Tai Ki Beti, and many others.
