I will start with a favourite of mine..Raj Kapoor wooing Nutan..there is so much innocence about the way they acted out, that we will be happy to watch them in bliss...what else can happen when He sings..." dil ki nazar se..nazron ke dilse..." ? Oh...those were the days...

This is one more song which i like very much...Jhoomti chali hawa from Sangeet samrat Tansen... there is so much pain and anguish in Mukesh's voice...we will be overwhelmed by it. on screen it melted Emperor Akbar's heart and offscreen...may be millions of people who heard it ...May His soul rest in peace..

The other day i was going on my bike to a friend's house and on the way, i saw this kid with a big bundle of books walking on the road on that isolated road. I was touched somewhere deep and stopped my bike. the kid looked up at me, a chubby boy who is sweating a lot ...and i asked him if i can drop him home as i am passing that way. The boy looked up at me..and i could see the hesitation in his eyes..as he swayed with indecision. he finally said ' sorry uncle, my parents told me not to get on any strangers' bikes " ! What i felt at that moment is indescribable...is this the world we are giving to our next generation? i dont blame the parents but am saddened at the whole picture...Then this song came to my mind...Kisi ki muskurahatonpe Ho nisaar hisi ka dard mil sake toh le udhaar...kisi ki vaasthe ho tere dil mein pyar...jeena isi ka naam hai....IS IT TRUE? I think so....this song will live till there is humanity in this world...

Simpelfable you are right till there is humanity in this world this song will live.
from this song i remembered few lines of a beautiful poem

Kisi ke kaam aane ka sukoon le kar to dekho
Us budhe ki lathi ban kuch door saath chal kar to dekho
Khushi jindagi ki kyon nahi uthathe ae dost
apni baton se us rote ko hasakar to dekho

Cheers

Thank you for constantly uploading videos of Mukeshji's songs. It's a real treat for not only the ears but for the eyes as well.

As far as Ramaiyya Vaistavaiyya is concerned, from what I heard, Shankar was trying to fit words into a tune he composed with a song that has the words "maine dil tujhko diya." When it came time to present it to Raj Kapoor, he had to put some "dummy words" in that spot which were "ramiyya vastavaiyya." Raj Kapoor liked it, and he went along with it. Raj Kapoor might be one of the very few (if not the only) actors/directors who actively took part in the recording of the songs for movies starring him, whether he made it or not.

Very true.

I recently watched an interview of Lata Ji. She mentioned that Raj Kapoor was one of very few producers who knew music in true sense. And she liked working with him dispite some differences.

SF,

Thanks for reviving this beautiful thread. Saranga title song Immortalised Sardar Malik , who despite being
a great composer did not get enough work, mainly because of presence of tough competetion by many
talented md's. He said Mukesh came to his house to rehearse the song for 30 days before they where both
satisfied. Thats why the song is just as fresh after 50 plus years. In the movie Rafi saab has also sang
or 2 stanza of the song. The other Mukesh solo " Ha deewana hu mein, and Lata - Rafi duet are also
excellent.

Ramesh..the pleasure is all mine. smile.gif
It is always heartening to hear the anecdotes behind these immortal songs. There is so much feel in this song...we cant think of anyone else singing this number...I got that lines sung by Rafi..they are more like an aalaap...than a song. The other solo is also a beautiful one. My next upload.. smile.gif

Venkat, what a lovely thread you have put together. I am sorry for the delay in my response. One small correction, the hero of Saraswati Chandra is Manish (his only film ?) and not Nasir Khan.

Small note. The heroine of Saaranga is Jayashree Gadkar. She has been a very popular actress in Marathi films and did a few roles in Hindi films, mostly mythological and costume dramas.

Cheers
