Thanks Surinder Bhai. When you told me a couple years back you had songs in almost every language including Nepali, I then took that with a pinch of salt believing that this was some tall talk. Now two years later I am amazed to know that you have some good Nepali songs even in Canada. Let us hope that some Nepali music lovers join you in contributing Nepali songs to the forum. I am sure Nepali music has a lot to offer in this forum given that even a C-grade Nepali singer like Udit Narayan has become a top notch Hindi Film singer.

After my childhood I never paid any attention to Nepali folk songs and music having veered off to the modern song. Now I realize how much I must have missed.

This song is a bit long but the story it tells so poignantly about the family conflict inherent in rural Nepal owing to economic desperation and entrenched social dysfunctionalities strikes a sympathetic chord in one's heart. "Teej" is the time when a wife fasts and prays for a husband's longevity. Here the son comes home from an urban area with gifts for his father and wife but in his hurry he forgets to get anything for his mom. There is the age old daughter-in-law and mother-in-law conflict playing out. Each of the men side with their women. While the conflict is raging in the village sides, urban Nepal is comfortably enjoying the lavish festivities for its sheer entertainment value. Ultimately the son threatens to sue his parents for patrimonial rights (something he learned from his urban lawyer friends). He then moves out with his wife, landing his parents in even more dire conditions.

Hope this story does not represent what is happening to your daughter and son-in-law. In the meantime please let us have more of such stuff.

Thank you for giving the story behind the song. I gathered that is what it was about but did not understand the fine details.

My daughter got married this year, actually only two months ago, so it is still honeymoon time at the moment. smile.gif

We are Gujarati. My daughter went to work in Nepal about six years ago and stayed there for two years. That is where she met Ganesh, her husband to be. But the wedding could not take place till this year because of all the immigration regulations in UK.

He has given me few songs in nepali and I will start uploading them starting from today.
