Gopaldas Saxena 'Neeraj', a well known name among Poet & Lyricist, has pen-down hard-fact of life in his poem 'Carvaan Gujar Gaya'.

AND immortal RAFI had made it immortal.

Sham Ki Sharab Ka Khumaar Dekhte Rahe

Are you absolutely sure about these lines, Usrafian? Don't have the song with me right now, but I seem to remember this part as something else.

Dear ROM,

In my life, I have some incidences, which are God’s boon for me.
When I was in IX th standard, once in a week, one period (of 35 minutes) was reserved for general talks (except study). The presiding Sir for that period was of highly poetic nature. Once he sang this poem very lovely voice that we all were fulfilled (flooded) with enormous joy,
The whole classroom echoed…once more sir, once more sir. He put one condition that he will sang stanza by stanza & all students have to explain it in their own words. We happily agreed. It took one month (4 periods) to finish the poem. During that period the classroom was happened to be full-jammed.
One stanza & one full week to discuss among ourselves, aahaaaa , the moments were sweeter than honey.

Each word, each stanza is carved on my heart, Pl believe me.

However, in respect to this song, this particular line actually is 'Saans ki sharab ka khumar dekhte rahe'... makes a world of difference from 'Sham ki sharab ka khumar dekhte rahe', I hope you'll agree.

I was reading the above interchange with great interest because my (failing) memory of this particular line was different. I always remembered it as "Saaz ki sharaab ka khumaar dekhte rahe". Jab tak yeh maamla tai nahin ho jaata, neend aani badhhi mushkil hai.

You are right that saans & shaam have lot of diffrences.
The word 'Khumaar' itself justifice which is the proper word.
Sharab Sham ki hoti hai saans ki nahi ho sakti.
