Lovely song..i recall this from my childhood.
Wonder where these melodies go and store in our hard disks..they always come back so easily... After silence that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.

Heard a nice TMS duet with Radha Jayalakshmi (?) from the movie Mullai Vanam -
Engirintho Ingu Vantha Rathiye. Bitrate: 128 kbps Duration: 00:03:18 I found a wikipedia site which lists year wise list of movies (starting from 1940s) with details such as producer, director, MD, main stars etc. I would like to know how far it is reliable giving correct info. Is there any other source for getting these info. |

I believe they were students of GNB. They have sung a handful of songs in Tamil films as well, usually with a classical bent. |

SB..May be , Sankar and nityakala are Pseudonyms ?? We will never know, i guess.. Here is one more timeless beautiful song..with wonderful lyrics. I know the lyrics because, there is a telugu version with Ghantasala. Lovely melody !! Vandha naal mudal.. Pava Manippu Viswanathan, Ramamurthy Kanna dasan http://www.mediafire.com/?exdznzkzxaj Couple of comments: 1) In Hindi cinema, there was a time in the 40s/50s when records had the names of the characters on screen rather than the actual singers. I sometimes wonder if Nityakala and Shankar is like that. But the website that mentions these names seems to be quite clear that it is a singer. So who knows. 2) SF, could you please upload the Ghantasala version of "Vandha naaL mudhal"? I am a big fan of the Tamil version and would love to hear it in Ghantasala's voice. But if someone uploaded so much data painstakingly, it should be mostly correct..just my two pence.. One day i would like to make a list like that...for telugu films.. Radha-Jayalakshmi are a singing duo. SB..am totally ignorant of classical scene. Dont know one from another. SF, could you please upload the Ghantasala version of "Vandha naaL mudhal"? I am a big fan of the Tamil version and would love to hear it in Ghantasala's voice. SB..here is the telugu song. Would love to hear the feedback from you. Manchini marichi..vanchana nerchi.. First off, thanks for uploading the song SF. I was kind of expecting something comparable in depth
and singing to the Tamil version. I am not personally a huge fan of TMS, but I really like his singing in this song. When you mentioned that Ghantasala sang the Telugu version, I was expecting something great - what with the depth in his voice. Unfortunately, it did not match up at all; fell short by quite a bit IMO. What do the lyrics mean? The Tamil lyrics are fantastic - Kannadasan never ceases to amaze me. How did this song do in Telugu? |

SB, You are right about Radha Jayalakshmi - they are singing due in Carnatic music. And in this particular song only one voice is audible. That is why I had a doubt about the details which I had picked up from a discussion forum (Hub?). I have quite a few very old nice songs taken from various sources but do not have any details. One such song is "Chandiranai Pol Irikkuma" by TRRajkumari. I would like to Know film, year of release and MD. Please help me if you (or SF, HT or anyone else) have details. Sincere regards, Rajan This post has been edited by RajanCS: Sep 6 2009, 08:56 PM |

Unfortunately, it did not match up at all; fell short by quite a bit IMO. What do the lyrics mean? SB..i can understand your feelings. Dont know why, but this was a different Ghantasala altogether..instead of his usual way, he went out rather philosphically.. the lyrics are sublime !! The picture ran because of this one song alone..and the song is so poignant, it brings tears to any self-conscious person.. The lyrics are about the degeneration of culture and values which are so symbolized by humanity. It is about how greed is bringing everything down... TMS is sublime for me. I love his nuances and the way he throws his voice in...especially in higher pitches.. I would like to Know film, year of release and MD. Please help me if you (or SF, HT or anyone else) have details. Rajan..will get back to you soon. Was away for a couple of days and hence this absence. According to one source on the web, this song is from the film "Vaazha pirandhavan" (1953).
I do believe that the film name is correct since this film did star T R Rajkumari. While that source says that the music is by S Rajeswara Rao and G Ramanathan, another source says that the music is by T R Papa. I don't know which one is correct. I was searching for "Rajkumari songs" or for the lyrics (used different spellings/combinations) but never got anything close to this. I really appreciate your efforts. May be you can share a few tips!!! With sincere regards, Rajan |

HT bhai...good to see you start up this thread again..
Never heard of CS Jayaraman...but the way he enunciates this song..full of emotion and the way he breaks up the words is a pleasure..even as i cant understand the meaning... Somehow, KL Saigal came to my mind..just raw emotions.. Here is a lovely lovely song..from a film called Kadal meengal. With a forgettable story and acting..It has this beautiful melody which stole me. Ever since, when ever i see seas and the men riding over waves...this invariably comes to my mind.. hope you will enjoy... Kadal meengal Thaalattude vaanam Malaysia vasudevan, Janaki Ilaya raja.. http://www.4shared.com/file/140544369/403b...ude_Vaanam.html This post has been edited by simplefable: Oct 13 2009, 04:24 PM After silence that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.

Another of my favourite is by Trichy Loganathan and Jikki from Manthira Kumari (1950). Music by G. Ramanathan. This song has a mixture of classical and western tune.
Ulavum thendral kaatriniley.. Featured on S.A. Natarajan and Madhuri Devi. "Aththan Ennaththan"----Film:PAAVA MANNIPPU ---MD:Viswanathan Ramamurthy---P.Suseela This ever-green song is picturised on Devika and Savitri! Thanks in advance, Venkat I have changed many views in life since my childhood, but not my view of Rafi Saab as the God-sent Gandharva who visited this Earth briefly to spread ultimate ecstasy among genuine music-lovers!
