Thanks for these songs. Har Sham is very nice!

I'm surprised to find that Govind Ram and Hafiz Khan were composing well into the 1950's! Govind Ram was big in the early to mid 40's.....I have Hafeez Khan (Mastana) songs dating back to 1940 (Main Hari) and the most recent was 1950 until this Talat song from the mid/late 50's.....

While the singer (Hafiz) Khan Mastana was MD for some films, there was a different Hafiz Khan, a saarangiyaa, who gave the music for the Noor Jehan starrers 'Zeenat' and 'Hamjoli'. Most probably, it was the saarangiyaa Hafiz Khan (who apparently moved to the UK later) who was also the MD for 'Meherbani' (1950) and 'Mera Salam' (1957).

I think Khan Mastana gave the music for "Watan" (1954). I am not sure what other films he tuned.

I really do not know much about different MDs. After having joined this forum, I have started getting information about the songs as well as personalities behind them. I have seen some discussions regarding Hazif Khan Mastana and the Sarangia Hafiz Khan saheb in this forum earlier. Do not know how easily these past discussion points can be located.

Great thread. As I said, Talat sahab is one of my most favorite singers.

Just a small suggestion. The maximum bitrate permitted on HF is 192 KBPS. Just FYI.

Secondly, I had downloaded almost all the songs of Talat sahab from his website (when those were available for free download). I will check my collection to see if I have this song from Diwali Ki Raat.

Talat Mehmood used to sing in Kolkatta under the name of Tapan Kumar before he moved to Mumbai. He has sung quite a few songs in Bangla.

Talat used to sing in Kolkatta under the name of Tapan Kumar before moving to Mumbai. My understanding is that he might have sung this song too under the same name. Even though I have not seen Sampatti, I feel that this name has nothing to do with the character in the movie.

I really do not remember the source from where I got this song. But this tagging is continuing from the same source.

May be, if I visit Talat Saheb's web site maintained by Khalid, I could find exact number. AFAIK, Talat Saheb has maximum number of non filmi's - geets and ghazals included. Next to follow could be Hemant Kumar - not sure.

Today's posting starts with a beautiful private song - Soye Huwe Hain. This is Hindi version of Talat Saheb's Bangla song - Ghumero Chaya which was posted by me in post 79 above. I notice that credit for the Bangla version's music has been given to Kamal Dasgupta whereas the Hindi version is Talat Saheb himself. I think the Bangla version might have come out earlier which could have been re-used for the Hindi version later on. It also possible that the tagging in either of the versions is incorrect. I need to check this aspect.

I'm surprised to see the song Mukh Se Na Boloon - which is credited to Anil Biswas. I've never heard of this film Jalianwala Bagh Ki Jyoti. Do you have any more songs from this film?

Uploading a Talat-Jikki duet from the movie Gul-E-Bakavali (1956). The tune is based on Raag Bageshri. Apparently this was a dubbed version of a tamil movie of same name (ref - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1286728/). The MD of the Tamil movie was Viswanathan Ramamurthy. The tamil song in same tune was sung by AMRaja and Jikki (Mayakkum Malai). Therefore, I have taken the MD for the Hindi version also as VR even though Earthmusic mentions MD as Gyan Dutt.
