Hamara Forums _ Roshan _ Mamta (1966)

Mamta (1966)

Mamta was a critically acclaimed movie that also fared well at the box office. Much of this it owed to its fine story, great acting, and some magnificent music by Roshan. All songs were huge hits. My favorite is the duet of Lata and Hemant. I am loading all the songs from a CD. The duet "Rahen Na Rahen" is due to the Forum members.

Now for a description of the songs and the songs themselves ...

Mamta (1966)

I am loading all the songs from a CD but per EarthMusic I am still missing two songs shown in red italics in the table below. Requesting the Forum members to share if they hae these songs.

Swarapriya ji, aapko "thank you" bolna is like sooraj ko diya dikhaana smile1.gif No seriously, you come up with such gems, one after another, from your never-ending collection and prepare your threads with such spectacular simpleness and regularity that, as another friend put it, it's difficult to keep up with your posts !

The concise, but apt descriptions you garnish your threads with are like sone pe suhaaga.

My hat truly, and wholeheartedly goes off to you ma'am.

Regarding your query, "Vikal Mora Manawa" is actually a raagamaala in three parts. It starts with "Hum Gawanawa Na Jaibe Ho," (raaga ?) moves into "Sakal Ban Gagan Pawan Chalat" (raaga Bahar), and then comes the "proper song" in raaga Pilu, "Vikal Mora Manawa Tum Bin." The song was used in the movie to signify the protagonists' growing musical prowess and the passage of time.
The audio you've uploaded has all three parts of the maala. You are not missing any songs.

In fact I had, about six months back, asked for "Sakal Ban Gagan" here, thinking it's full song while I already had it as part of the raagamaala, as "Vikal Mora Manawa" in my library ! Abhay (Phadnis) uploaded it for me and supplied all the information above.

Thank you once again for sharing your treasure with us.

Warm regards,
Saksham.

My dear Saksham,

First things first. Please drop "ji" when addressing me.

Let me thank you for taking the time to express your feelings about these postings. It is always a joy when someone shares good thoughts about your "work". But this "work" is simply pure pleasure to me. Listening, understanding, enjoying, sharing. It is just a wondeful feeling.

Thank you once again.

Cheers,
Swarapriya

Along with the song and associated info, Abhay also uploaded Pt. Jasraj's traditional bandish in Bahar (Khamaj Bahar, as Jasraj likes to call it), "Sakal Ban Gagan Pawan Chalat." Lata's 40s rendition closely adheres to this traditional bandish, whilst successfully corroborating Pu La Despande's famous statement of how she can capture in a 3-minute disc the essence of what classical singers take an hour to build up!

I'm uploading the bandish for everybody's listening pleasure. The duration is 10:20 minutes; the encoding in mp3 is at 128 kbps (Courtesy: Abhay).

Enjoy!

Warm regards,
Saksham.
