Thanks for this song. I heard it and it does sound like Geeta Dutt. Naheed Niazi wasnt discovered then... and no other Pakistani singer at that time sounded like Geeta Dutt.

I asked my mom to hear this song too, and she says, she is quite sure that the singer is Geeta.

So Maheh, Ummer ji

I understand that Geeta ji is supposed to have sung 2 songs for this film Miss 56. The first one is "Ek baat sunaati hoon", which is the other one? I remember someone shared a file of "Aire gaire nathu khaire" but it was not good audio quality.

I am not sure... Someone on youtube is claiming that Geeta Dutt sang 4 songs for this film, 2 duets and 2 solos.

Perhaps somebody can see the movie credits and confirm. Dhall ji its not necessary that Geeta ji had gone for the recording to Pakistan. There is the possibility of the recording having been done in Bombay with the MD coming there. I don't think she went to Nepal for her Nepali movie Maitighar similarly. I have listened to the youtube aire gaire nathu khaire and found it very similar to geeta style+tone.

Which one was Nahid Niazi's first song recorded for a movie and in
which year. When did she began singing from Radio Pakistan, Lahore ?
What is the release date of Miss 56 ?

Release date of Miss 1956 is November 9, 1956, and release date of Sarfarosh is June 15, 1956. I find it surprising because Meena came to Lahore for the shooting of Miss 1956, then how come Sarfarosh was released before Miss 1956.?

Nahid Niazi first recorded song, not sure, but must be around 1957-1958, for the film Ayaz "Mil gaya dil ko qaraar" (although Ayaz itself was released with a delay in 1960 because of court case).

Ummer.

I have heard that furniture fellow but never contacted him.
ADK's collection at SS also has this song somewhere but
usual dull, muffed copy.

I came across a biography on yesteryear actress Meena Shorey who starred in Miss 56 and some details about the movie were put there. I am posting the relevant paragraphs for information below. If J.C. Anand was going for authenticity and even called actress from Bombay singer could have been called or arranged for recording as well.

QUOTE

Ek Thi Ladki , made by her husband in 1949 in Bombay, dubbed her as the sensational Lara Lappa Girl (after one of the popular songs from that film). Just when the glamour of this achievement was beginning to decline, the couple was called to Lahore (Pakistan) by J.C. Anand. He had used an Indian soundtrack (Hemant Kumar's number Na Yeh Chaand Hoga ) in his successful movie Sassi last year and now he wanted to improve the status of his plagiarism by imitating the concept of an entire film: Guru Dutt - Madhubala hit Mr. & Mrs. 55.
What came out was Miss 56.
Although the film did average to good business, it proved to be the swan song of the Shoreys. Meena, the Lara Lappa Girl of the forties was pampered by all, in contrast with the treatment meted out to declining artistes by film-goers in Bombay. For her it was like rediscovering her youth. So when the time came to return to India, she decided to stay back, leaving heart-broken Roop to take yet another trip from Lahore empty-handed, within a span of ten years, first losing his means of livelihood and then his sweetheart.
