Dear Anupamaji and Faaraj ji

Faaraj ji is spot on. The songs from Aarzo (old) are not by Rafi Sahab . MY APPOLOGIES.

In fact I’d downloaded it from bharatlover.com, (which has around 500 videos of Rafi Sahab songs), and it was listed as Rafi Sahab’s voice. After listening, it is clear it is not, and the mystery is solved that it is Anil Biswas himself. Thanks Faaraj ji


The song ae maut bura ho tera was downloaded by me a month ago from the channel of Sartaj 1961 in youtube. This apparently is from a CD given alongwith a biography of Rafi Sahab. This is mentioned in the preamble to the song. I’d love to have more details about how to get this from the forum members.

Hi All

I have twin objectives. One is the never-ending (probably lifelong) quest for rare numbers of Rafi Sahab. Second was to index the collection of around 4000 that I’ve got thanks to You Tube, HF, Dr Surjit Singh’s site, e snips(main contributors, or to be precise the generosity of the uploaders). This would enable sharing

Towards this end I’d uploaded an excel file of list of film songs of Rafi Sahab with the letter A.

Today, I could just finish the indexing of list of film songs of Rafi Sahab with the letter B. This has around 350 songs (A had 420 odd so around 1/6th of the indexing of film songs is over, phew! The source of the index as acknowledged was Mywan, which was further improvised by Mr Seshadri. I’ve just tried to add the co-singer and the lyricist, thru earthmusic).

I’d again like to thank for the overwhelming response to the requests from letter A (18/24). The response from uploads from my list was a bit lukewarm, presumably, as all the collectors already have bulk of the numbers.

Like earlier, I’ve shaded the ones I have with blue, and the missing ones with red. I’ve also used Anupamaji’s wish list to complete the indexing.

However the requests other than Anupamajis list is as under :

Thanks for clarifying about the song from Aakhri Dao being a solo by Ashaji, &Aakhri Khat Hain kuch bhi nahin being a Manna Dey number.

As regards woh teer dil pe chala from Aarti, I have the same (and that is why it is in blue).

If you have, and if possible, please upload the other two duets marked in red i.e. Aa ja Aa ja with Suman Kayanpur, and Ui ma pyar ki boliyan bolti from Aarti.

Yes the Lataji number is not included as I've just listed the songs of Rafi Sahab

Can you please tell whether it is picturised on my favorite actor Badruddin Qazi i.e. Johnny Walker. Most of the songs for peddlers like photograhers (dilber par ho kabo) or champi malish etc are on Johnny only by Rafi Sahab, and this one too sounds tailor made for Johnny (though it could be some other actor also like aana o bhai jan khilau paan was on Sunder I was told.

Looking forward to more rare numbers of Rafi Sahab from you

Bhavitaji no issues

As regards the md of Beqasoor, earthmusic had listed both Anil Biswas and Hansraj Behl as mds for different songs.

Anil da's pathological aversion towards using Rafi Sahab (perhaps the only music director to do so) is well known. May be that is why all the other numbers (by Lataji) are by Anil Biswas, and the two Rafi sahab duets are credited to Hansraj Behl.

And I rechecked, The trio song of G.M.Durrani, Mukesh and Rafi Sahab is credited to Anil Biswas!

Why two MDs, I do not know, bcos it was common only to Sajjid Hussain and O P Nayyar, who reportedly had differences with everyone! and thus many of their films needed two MDs.

Other members maybe can throw some light on this interesting aspect.
