Sorry, I could not write anything in my post as I was getting an error. So here is my query:

It is a wellknown fact that Lata Mangeshkar had composed the tunes for a few movies under the nickname "Anandghan". But I always had a nagging feeling that the songs sounded very much like Pt. Hridaynath Mangeshkar's. My guess is that the tunes may be composed by Lata Mangeshkar and the music arrangement would be Pt. Hridaynath Mangeshkar's.

Would anyone like to share their thoughts on this?

SKG.

Hi,

You guessed that the music arrangement for Anandghan could be by Pt. Hridaynath. Possible. Generally most MDs have their Arrangers and one Arranger can work for couple of MDs. In the present case of Anandghan, Lataji however, must have inspected the music arrangemnet and must have given many valuable suggestions or made some changes.

I also feel that the styles of some songs of Anandghan reveal influences (just influences nothing else) of Bengali MDs like Hemantda or Salilda e.g. Nilya abhali katarweli, Kase kase hasayache. When I hear these songs, quickly I remember songs like Kuchh Dilne kaha (anupama) and Lag Ja Gale.

I would like to share this interesting story about Lata & Hridaynath. I have read it somewhere but can't recall exactly when & where.

There was music arrangement of songs in process. Lata, under nickname "Anand Ghan" had misic directed the songs & upon her request Hridaynath was looking after the arrangement. At one moment, Lata did not like what Hridaynath had done & tried to suggest him something on her own. A little annoyed, Hridaynath told her not to interfere with his work; if she wanted quality work from him; & she agreed.

Somebody.. pl. confirm.

Shridharji,

The tune of "Nilya Abhali" might sound somewhat like "Kuchh Dil Ne Kaha", but I still feel the music arrangements sound quite distinct - I can only feel Pt. Hridaynath Mangeshkar's influences there...

Joy, sorrow, tears, lamentation, laughter — to all these music gives voice, but in such a way that we are transported from the world of unrest to a world of peace, and see reality in a new way, as if we were sitting by a mountain lake and contemplating hills and woods and clouds in the tranquil and fathomless water.

Here is the song (3:30 min, mp3@128 kbps). But it is not an Anandaghan song: the music is by Hridayanath. The lyrics are by Aarti Prabhu (C T Khanolkar).

Hridaynath narrated this incident when appearing on one of the Marathi SRGMP episodes: When Lata was doing her first film as a music director, he was working as her arranger. They had some disagreement and Lata told him he would have to follow her way if he wanted to work with her; he promptly withdrew from the film. For her subsequent films as MD, however, he assisted Lata.

Warm regards,
Abhay
