Those who know Nirupa Roy as the famous mother in the film "Deewar" would probably not know some facts about her. That Geeta Roy sang dozens of songs for Nirupa Roy in the forties and early fifties would probably come as a surprise to many.

Born as Kokila Kishorechandra Balsara in Valsad, Gujrat, young Kokila married a man named Kamal Roy at a young age and migrated to Bombay (now Mumbai) for acting in Films. Very soon she became the "Goddess" of Hindi Films. She went on to act in many movies, initially as the leading lady then in various roles of a variety of Hindu Goddesses, so much so that people actually lined up to seek her blessings.

Young Geeta Roy sang many songs filmed on Nirupa Roy and this young singer had almost achieved a status of "Audio Goddess".

Coming soon on this thread are

1) List of films for which Geeta Roy gave her voice to Nirupa Roy
2) An association of these two young girls for Hindi as well as Gujrati films
3) A look at some prominent songs Geeta Roy sang for Nirupa Roy including the superhit songs for the film "Har har mahadev"
4) Last but not the least, the role of composer Avinash Vyas in this musical association

Looking at the above list, the notable films for which Geeta ji sang for Nirupa Roy seem to be : Nanand Bhojai, Gunsundari, Mangalphera (both in Hindi and Gujrati for all these films), Hamari Manzil, Har Har Mahadev, Gada No Bel (Gujrati) and Nag Mani.

As one can see, majority of these films music is composed by the veteran composer Avinash Vyas.

In one of the earliest films Nanand Bhojai (1948) starring Nirupa Roy, Geeta ji sang 4 solos and 2 duets with A R Oza. The music was composed by Bulo C Rani and the lyrics were by Indra Chandra

Ae jee meri nanadi hui jawaan - Geeta Dutt
Bana dulhan ka vesh chali pritam ke desh - Geeta Dutt
Gaaun main dil ka taraana - Geeta Dutt
Ek Gagan panth ka pakheroo duniya mein - Geeta Dutt
Tum kehte rahe ham sunate rahe - Geeta Dutt , A R Oza
Zindagi hai dillagi dillagi hai zindagi - Geeta Dutt , A R Oza

Similarly, I believe, Geeta ji must have sung the same songs in the Gujrati version of the same film. 2 songs from this Gujrati film have been previously shared on HF

1) Ek Gagan panth no pakheroo - Geeta Dutt (The same tune as "Ek Gagan panth ka pakheroo duniya mein")
2) Achko Machko Kareli - Geeta Dutt
3) Saji sola sinagar - Geeta Dutt (The same tune as "Bana dulhan ka vesh chali pritam ke desh")

The song 3 has been posted in CDQ here

The film Gunsundari, released the same year, had 3 songs of Geeta ji in the Hindi as well as the Gujrati version.

All the 3 Gujrati songs are posted at the same link

http://www.hamaraforums.com/index.php?s=&a...st&p=563428

Requesting song number 1 and 2 from these Hindi songs

1) Bhabhi o bhabhi badlo thoda thoda rang - Geeta Dutt
2) Khye hue ko dhoondhane prabhu aankh do hamko - Geeta Dutt
3) Nanadiya maare boli ke baan balam main tumse na boloon - Geeta Dutt

Thanks
Parag

Also, Geeta ji sang a couple of songs for the composer Hanuman Prasad (who earlier introduced Geeta ji in the year 1946 with songs for the film Bhakta Pralhad). The film was a social one : Hip Hip Hurray and starred Nirupa Roy.

Chubh gaye naina baan - Geeta Dutt
Hum jaan gaye jaan gaye jee - Geeta Dutt

Requesting the title song of the film (sung by Geeta ji and G M Durrani, one of their earliest duets).

Thanks
Parag

The next year saw release of one of the most successful films of Gujrat. The film was Mangal Phera and starred Nirupa Roy. There is no information if this was also made in Hindi or not. The music was composed by Avinash Vyas who also penned the lyrics.

3 songs of Geeta ji (which include the superhit Garba song "Taaliyon na taale" and the divine bhajan "Rakh na ramakada ne" - a duet with A R Oza) have been uploaded in CDQ here

http://www.hamaraforums.com/index.php?s=&a...st&p=563428

Requesting help from knowledgable members on getting :
1) More songs of Geeta ji from the Gujrati version
2) If Geeta ji sang in the Hindi version as well, then her songs in the Hindi version

Thanks
