Couple of pictures from my visit to india. This is a holy place called Namish Aranya where Mahrishi Ved Vyas wrote the grep epic Mahabharat under a tree which is said to be 5088 year old now.

Nics pics Sandeep.

Trust the Indians to treat the ancient tree (if it really is one) with carelessness. It doesn't look too 'protected' wink2.gif

Where exactly is this? What's the route you took to reach this place? (which part of India?)

Self - belief is the most potent force.

Mandrake,

Its in the district of Sitapur near Lucknow (my hometown) on the banks of the river Gomati. Naimisharanya is an ancient place for pilgrims. It is believed to have been the meditation centre of about 60 thousands of saints in ancient times. The Mahabharata was composed by Veda Vyas in this forest. This is the same place where rishi Ved Vyas classified Vedas in four parts and also created Purans. There is a well in this place ans is said to have been built by the Pandavas. A dip in the river Gomati at this spot is considered to be very sacred ritual. The story goes that, on the request of Lord Indra, the Rishi Dadhichi after having bathed in the waters of this well had sacrificed the mortal remains of his body and presented the bones to Indra so that he could create a thunder stroke powerful enough to kill Britrasur. This place is approx 89 km from Lucknow and is accessible by train, bus and taxi from Lucknow.

Yes this whole city is very much neglected by authorities.
