Hamara Forums _ Asha Bhonsle _ Apni Pasand Hai Man Pasand...

Okie....I thought I should start a similar thread (as I did in the Lata subforum) here as well.

Songs will be random, any language (unless there are language rules here like Bengali songs in Bengali forum only?!?!), and those that have not been uploaded here before (most of the time). Requests are allowed as well. thumbs-up.gif

So..being Bengali, I begin with 2 Bangla numbers - very popular - and my favourites.
(i don't know the music director in these songs, or if they are filmi/non-filmi)

Song #1: Asha - Jodi Kane Kane Kichu Bole Bodhua

[attachmentid=34799]

Song #2: Asha - O Pakhi Ure Aaye Ure Aaye

[attachmentid=34802]

I have partial information about both songs.
"Jodi kaane kaane kichhu" has music by RDB according to my notes.
Don't know if it is film or not.

"O paakhi uDe aaye" is from the film "Jibon rahasya". Don't have
any more info on it. But the music sounds very very Salil-esque.

Would love to know the full details of both songs including the year.

Posted by: priya Jul 19 2005, 09:30 AM

My excel sheet says the first song is from Jibon Rahasya too!!!!!

Posted by: sani_thakur Jul 19 2005, 09:36 AM

Song #3:

Daiya Yeh Main Kahan Phansi - Caravaan. music: RDB (i think)
(file is 128 Kbps)

Now..the begining of this song has a comment by someone on Asha...that's what I wanted to know...anyone knows whose commentary it is ???

And yes...Asha...the diva has sung this song simply gorgeously...!

OKay...I'm confused...album is Caravan ???

I had this song for a long time...not sure where I downloaded it from...probably during the AudioGalaxy era.

I do have several Asha songs with commentaries.

Sumadhur Geet #4:
Priya's request can be found below. So Priya...do I get the same treatment as Sharad (u falling at my feet......etc.) ? laugh.gif
(for 200 requests.....200 times falling at my feet.....hehehe.....Priya will know what I speak of rollf.gif laugh.gif wink2.gif )
(okay...maybe that's just a crude joke since priya is elder to me....but it is sooo temptinggggg)

Kalyanji-Anandji music in 1987 (i just made the cut mentioned by N)

Asha - Aur Is Dil Mein (female) - Imaandaar/Imandaar/Imaandar/Imandar
(those are various ways one might spell "emaadaar", to make searches easier for that movie rolleyes.gif now...ain't i smart?)

[attachmentid=34961]

The male version is actually a duet, with Asha-ji at the ending. That's Ur Song #5:

Suresh Wadkar & Asha Bhosle - Aur Is Dil Mein

I see...hamari thread mein hamari bashing!!! Asha-to-Lata-fan-conversion to hoke hi rahega! poseur.gif

This is what I think I have to do now - I should just stop watching TV (mommy was right...4 hrs of TV during summer vacations is indeed too much, when I haven't really attempted to get a summer job) and even sleeping...just so that I can give some zabardast replies to u 2 madcaps, which by the way is a very mild word to describe u two.....u two are.....well....even i am outta words! angry2.gif

U ppl are most welcome, nonetheless. Aage aage dekho....(upload) hota hai kya.

Note 1: Maska...hmmm...i am supposed to be good at that...i get assignments from my friends purely using indian-maska. i should be able to recognize maska by now. u two are doing an awful job at it. appreciate me morrreeeeee. laugh.gif
Maska-fy mee moreee tongue.gif (yup, muska-fy can be taken as a Hinglish word)

Note 2: Thanks Priya for those 2 "mallu" songs (i used the word "malayalam" first...but she turned the table and used "mallu".....soooo.....mallu it is) tongue.gif
In Kuwait (high school), i had a lot of keralite friends, and they didn't like me much when i called them "mallu".
But agar main "bong", then "mallu" is just fine.

Note 3: Didn't know Zindagi Ek Jua is post 1987. My fav. actress (Madhuri) is in it, I believe. I wanna see that film again. By the way, the "Na Ja Re Pardes" song, I had to downsize its bit-rate from 256 to 192 Kbps- it is a huge song, and over 10MB. So Priya...agar aapke paas "gmail" (accepts 15MB emails, i think) ho toe, hamein PM kar dijiye.

Sani.

Song #7:

Asha - Saiyan Aaye Naa - Pyara Dushman. Music Director: Nisar Bazmi ???

File is at 155 Kbps. The sad thing is...the song is only 1:11min - I wish this song could have gone a bit longer...or am I missing anything ???

[attachmentid=35111]

What Priya...satisfied with only 128 Kbps..!!! Look at Mrs.T and me....even if we have 256 Kbps, we want 320 Kbps (which is actually what CD-Quality is, at 320). So...at 128, U R missing more than half of the information the original song had contained! Mrs.T has the best ear for quality. She can spot "musical noise" that only a sound-sensitive creature can detect!

Well...U have Ur song (above). Now...where is the "maska". Chalo...shuru ho jao!

Sani.

Thanks a ton Sani. U are a dear. tongue.gif

Nisar Bazmi is a famous Pakistani MD.

Sani, with a poor connection 128 kbs is a blessing. cry.gif

Posted by: priya Jul 21 2005, 10:55 AM

Such a short snippet!!! But seems like that is all.
On hearing the song realised this is obviously not a Nisar Bazmi composition as he left India in the 50s I think. This song is from a 1980 film Pyara Dushman (the Bazmi one was 1955).
MD is Bappi Lahiri and lyrics are by Anjaan.

Song #9: (as requested by a future Lata-fan)

Asha - Awam - Kaise Murli Bajayi Ghanshyam

music: Ravi (?), lyrics: Hasan Kamal (?)

[attachmentid=35581]

Comments:

i) I hope the above 6:09min, 146 Kbps song drains all Ur (priya's) bandwidth laugh.gif ....kiddinggg.....okie...maybe not such a good joke. tongue.gif

ii) Contrary to popular belief (aka Priya's hallucination tongue.gif ), this song is a solo, and not a duet with Mahendra Kapoor - unless maybe there is a seperate duet version that I do not know about. Flawless singing by Asha-ji.

iii) Here is a modified article that many might be interested in:

"The 27th Film Music Awards were presented on Dec. 17 to the winners -producer B. R. Chopra, music director Ravi, singer Asha Bhosale and lyricist Hasan Kamal for the song "Kaise Murli Bajaye Ghanshyam" in 'Awam', and producer Uma Prakash Bhende, music director Srikant Telang singer Padmaia Phenane and lyricist Shantaram Nandgaonkar for the title song in "Prema Sathi Wattel Te. Sani Thakur, who later became the most famous and most successful Asha-to-Lata converter, just turned 4 years old then. He could write crap so brilliantly, that one would would almost beleive that the crap were true facts."

Original article can be found at:

http://www.studio-systems.com/Playback&Fastforward/PlayBack/1989/February/9.htm

(this website has a LOT of very interesting stuff that I have been reading over the years. it also has tons of rare pics - all scattered, however)

iiii) I think I am spending more time with Asha songs these days than with Lata's. Well Lata fans...don't fret...I am on a mission....to convert 2 mighty tigresses, who are rather very ziddi. But the future is already predicted, they will bow before Lata sooner or later. I am just trying to make them realize that sooner IS better.

iiiii) Yes..I do know my Roman numerals - I am just trying something new.

Sani.

Srikant, please first compress the file using the winzip or winrar utility and then upload it. If you are trying to upload a mp3 file or any audio file without compressing the forum is not set to attach such files.

Kindly follow the instructions.

1. Choose the file of upload and compress using winzip/winrar. All you need to do is right click and you are sure to get the option to compress like Add to Archive.. of zip or rar

2. choose the compressed file using the browse button

3. And then click on the attach button.

Nimii,

Thanks for replying .. but the procedure i follow is exactly what you have mentioned and i have already u/l several zipped files successfully over the last 2 weeks. After yesterday night's fiasco, I tried again this morning- twice - but no success. I can't figure out what the trouble is.

After i click on the 'add this attachment' - the file begins to upload .... and just when it is ALMOST FULLY UPLOADED, i get the error message which i have mentioned earlier - it's quite frustrating, as you can imagine

I am going to try one more 'last' time with this mail attempt .. let's see

SORRY ... NO LUCK - I got the same error message again !! I tried shortening the file name this time - just to try something different... but no luck. The zipped file size is only 2.94 MB - i can't understand what the probem could be.

is there a limit on uploading ? in any case, i deleted one earlier u/l of more than 3 MB .. just to see if that would solve the problem ... but that didn't make a difference.

Now it is really intriguing me ... need some technical help on this one

sri

Song #11 (requested by Priya)

Asha - SHAHENSHAH (1953 - thanks Mahesh -) - Aai Baharen Leke
music: Sachin Dev Burman, lyrics: Sahir Ludhiyanvi

[attachmentid=36191]

Priya...the song is not complete - I think it is missing some parts in the begining. The ending of the song has begining of some other song too, not sure which one. Which means...if someone here has a better and complete version, please do upload. Above song is 3:18 min long, and only at 126 Kbps.

Earthmusic.Net says this song was sung by Lata - I do not think so. The voice is very Asha. rolleyes.gif It does not say the release year of the film either.

Which reminds me...where did this Priya go anyways ??? Kahan gayi aap, Priya-jiiiiii??? Maybe she exhausted all her bandwidth (thanks to my rather high quality uploads laugh.gif )...but I thought U had a nice internet cafe nearby?!?! huh.gif

Enjoy the song nonetheless,
Sani.

Song #11 (requested by Priya)

Asha - SHAHENSHAH (1953 - thanks Mahesh -) - Aai Baharen Leke
music: Sachin Dev Burman, lyrics: Sahir Ludhiyanvi

[attachmentid=36191]

Maybe she exhausted all her bandwidth (thanks to my rather high quality uploads  laugh.gif )...but I thought U had a nice internet cafe nearby?!?!  huh.gif

Enjoy the song nonetheless,
Sani.

Song #12: (as requested by some bachcha's friend) tongue.gif tongue.gif

Asha - Ae Tum Kahan Chale Pyare

[attachmentid=37070]

I am not sure of the movie-name - is it Pyara Dushman (as per HCD) or Pyar Ka Rog (as per Earthmusic.net) ???

I uploaded another song from the same album before (i think) - Saiyan Aaye Na - is also from the movie Pyar Ka Rog (music: Bappi Lahiri), I think, and it says it is a duet (Asha and Kishore) - so in that case what U uploaded before (1:11 min) must be severely incomplete! Anyone here has the entire number ??? - please do upload if U do.

Sani.

P.S: Pyare Priya - appke list mein bahut mistakes hain dry.gif - fix them laugh.gif

U know Priya - I think the movie is Pyar Ka Rog for that song (Saiyan Aaye Na). Needs to be confirmed.

Yeh batche bhi na, itne ignorant hote hain. sad1.gif VN matlab Vishwas Nerurkar. He writes books. Books of lists. Lists of songs. Songs of singers and mds. Done one on Lata too fyi. The latest ones were on KK and RDB. The Asha one is on Hindi film songs till 1994.

Na there are some mistakes but msotly when the songs are of the 50s and rare, issued only on the lp or available only in the film track. Less errors than the Geetkosh (no offence to Hamraazji--that is some mammoth task and we are all mighty grateful) which at times mixes up Asha and Lata's voices.

Keshav: Thanks a lot - really appreciate the acknowledgement (same goes for U toooo Priya & Hits too..for all that song-info, both here and in the Lata group. rolleyes.gif ).

As for the song, Bane Bade Raja - the music is pretty cool - a little different - perhaps the male voice is that of the actor in the film, who says these lines just before the song starts. unsure.gif

[attachmentid=34799]

Song #2:  Asha - O Pakhi Ure Aaye Ure Aaye

[attachmentid=34802]

*

Both are from Jibon Rahasya (Rohoshyo-chuckle!). Music by Salil Chowdhury's ardent admirer & student Abhijit Bandopadhyay (the interlude music of 'o paakhi udi aaye' is a give-away!). The movie was from the early 70's.

I had heard Abhijit B on a radio programme last year where he said that these 2 songs were his first (and only?) venture with Asha-tai. He had gone all the way to Bombay to record the songs. Asha-tai's awesome popularity & incredibly busy schedule made her skip dates & default pre-determined schedules. At last, when money was drying up for Abhijit & his team, he gatecrashed into her house (at Prabhu Kunj?) & told her politely about her contract & her delays that were causing his and his producers monetary loss. Asha-tai, after a long day was tired and with an expression of slight irritation asked him to play/sing the tunes. Abhijit sang then (with Asha-tai's harmonium) & a delighted Asha-tai practised both these numbers with him for the entire night and the next day, recorded both of them, first thing in the morning, on first take, perfect in all respects. She even took the initiative to book a slot in the studio as Abhijit was not sure of the day on which the recording would have taken place.

A talented composer with many popular bengali songs to his credit.: Manna-babu's 'ke tumi ke tumi' from the same film, Hemanta babu's adhunik numbers 'shobaai chole gechhe' & 'emon ekta jhor uthuk', Shyamal Mitra's 'chhipkhan teen dnaar' etc are amongst a few of them.

Regards-Archie.

NEGATIVE ones tongue.gif

I think if the entire world were to vanish today, leaving on Nimii and Priya - they could keep each other comapny for the rest of their lives (with or without AB - that might be debatable). tongue.gif
----------------------------------

By the way - here is something regarding MUSIC/SOUND/MP3 quality that Priya might be interested to know (and so might several other ppl):

Consider that U have the song "Piya Tu Ab To Aaja" @ 128 Kbps. U burn it to a CD. One would eventually delete the song from ur comp. (to save space of course). Now, say after a certain time period, U RIP (extract) the song from the CD at say 128 Kbps. So, now U have 128 Kbps rip of an originally 128 Kbps song! That much sound/music/info will be lost.

The only way U can reduce info-loss (to negligible amounts) is if U rip the file at the best 320 Kbps. Or even better is if U use loss-less ripping, which is what automatically comes with ripping to a WMA file(windows media audio, of your windows media player). But WMA has no compression, and hence their file sizes are HUGE (eg. a 5 min 128 Kbps mp3 is approx. 5MB will translate to 60 MB in wma!!!).

If U keep repeating the burn and rip procedure @ 128 Kbps - U will eventually have so much loss that U will be left with the high amplitude sounds only - U might only end up with a faded version of "monica..o my darlingggggggg" laugh.gif

This is exactly why I prefer the highest quality to start with. Of course, if U make an exact copy of a CD (to another CD), then U have practically no loss at all.

Well - Priya - now thank me once again for all my bandwidth straining uploads. tongue.gif tongue.gif (kidding).

The above is for general infomation only. Maybe this ain't the right place to write the above, but i'm just too lazy to search for a techincal sub-forum (if at all) here. rolleyes.gif

*

Forgot to mention this one point - I guess if U keep back-ups of all ur mp3s in a MP3 CD directly in the mp3 format - then I guess U could share songs directly from there without having to rip normal audio CDs. rolleyes.gif

Sure Priya....these songs are the very baits of "conversion" tongue.gif ....they'll have be here till they serve their purpose poseur.gif
U know what U should do...threaten ur ISP...force them to give U unlimited bandwidth. laugh.gif
At times, I simply call my ISP (which is Bell-Canada)..and tell them that I am student and I am tired paying such high price for such slow speed (i have very good speed, actually) - and then they just give me $5 or $10 coupons, that I can use on any of their products (such as cell phones). Yuppp...I am all Indian with my bargaining skills. wink2.gif Once, I even got $25 off my monthly bill for complaining for no apparant reason. Of course, I can't do it every month...I call them only when I am bored or something (they are there 24 hrs). Okie-dokie. Songs shall remain their normal 30 days period.

I have unlimited bandwidth...therefore allowing me to download/upload tons of songs, and tons of movies too - I had to buy extra 120 GB, and then I ran out of that space too, so I had to get a DVD-burner...now everything goes into DVDs.

Well - here are 2 solo songs from Ehsan (1970) , music: RDB - I am not sure if they have been uploaded here earlier (if they have, then simply blame Priya for not updating her wish-list tongue.gif). (i had uploaded the brilliantly sung Pyasa Mera Dil from the very same film by Lata earlier in the Lata sub-forum).

Song #31: [2:57 min , @ 128 Kbps]
Asha - Yeh Jhalak Yeh Jhalak Haan Chali Main - Ehsan (1970) --- the song is so small - is it even complete ??? unsure.gif

Song #32: [4:24 min , 133 Kbps]
Asha - Aayi Hoon Main - Ehsan (1970)

[attachmentid=44204]

Well - I think songs from this album should be evidence enough to find a DNA sample of R.D.Burman, and then clone him. laugh.gif The above two songs are so full of life - amazing how this man could bring out the best in the vocals of the two sisters. *hats off to RDB*

Natya Parag -must be the tagged name of Album, not a film.

Eventhough I dont understand Marathi, but still on hearing this classical/semi-classical number felt that it has been superbly rendered by Asha-ji. Hats off to her for effortlessly rendering such a difficult compostion.

Since I have the song--both old and new concert version, did not dl Ur file. But Urs is almost 4 mb while my hcd version is 3.27 mins only. So my q: is Urs the young Asha version or later recording?
The hcd one I have says 1954. She performed the Sony TV concert one in the 90s. Must have also sung it in many Marathi concerts.

Hahahah Deewz, but dont blame them. You never know they may be correct and Ultra ppl may be wrong rollf.gif Let us give them all the benefit of doubt. Need to check more databases and conclude with an average date tongue1.gif

closedeyes.gif Actually I have found so many mistakes at Ultra, it's not even funny, I rarely use them, sometimes for pics and comparison. Probably soundtrack was released before that anyways, I did see the solo cassette on my last trip to the music shop and put it on my list to consider buying, wasn't sure I had or not, etc., next time I go, I will peek at the date.

Posted by: Nimii Jul 27 2006, 10:44 AM

Ha ha ha so true. Ultra not only messes up with the years, but also the tracks. Earthmusic does not even list anything about this album sigh.gif

VN's book database shows it as 1987. If so the file has to go offline doh.gif

Why should it go offline ?? I thought the border line was on and before 1987 ?!?!?! Till 1987 ???? I am so lost.

If the song has to go offline..then U have to delete it from Ur computer prior biggrin.gif Or maybe I can bribe U into letting the song be here for another 28 days. smile1.gif

Posted by: Nimii Jul 28 2006, 07:25 AM

No idea about the actual year of release as several db give a different date. Whoever can authenticate the year of release are most welcome to do so. Until then file could probably remain.

If I have to delete it from my system, then there are many such songs of 1987 and post 1987 woh bhi delete karna hai kya ohmy.gif

Yep let us wait for someone to give us the correct date biggrin.gif

So - who is this Sonik Omi ??? Is he RDB student ???

Manoharlal Sonik ( also known in filmi circles as Master Sonik) was a blind musician who used to assist Madan Mohan as an 'arranger'. Later, his nephew Omprakash Sonik joined him and the two assisted Roshan. It was when working with Roshan that they decided to change their screen names to Sonik-Omi ( because they felt it sounded better - and like a music director duo !! Probably the nephew's idea - he was the spokesperson of the team, while the uncle must have been the more 'music' oriented partner). The elder Sonik retained his name - while the nephew Omprakash kept the name by which he was known - Omi. That's how the name Sonik-Omi was born.

The duo got a chance to make their own music with the film Dil ne phir yaad kiya which released in 1966 starring Dharmendra and Nutan - a big break for them. The title song of the film (Rafi-Suman-Mukesh) and 'Kaliyon ne ghunghat kholi' (Rafi) were hit songs from that film. The duo made music for many other films including Mahua (1969), Dharma (1973)...going upto the year 2000...but none quite as memorable as the first one. Master Sonik died in 2001, I think.

In the words of Omi - his uncle was a very good music director - with a tendency to stick to perfection, while he himself was more conscious of 'commercial appeal'.

Aaj dil ne phir yaad kiya Sonik Omi ko....since Sani asked the question !

Song #48:
Asha Bhosle - Are Sitamgar Ik Aur Todkar - Husn Aur Ishq (1966) - Ganesh - Asad Bhopali

Song is 5:06 min long, and at 128 Kbps CBR.

There is some confusion with the year -- various websites either say 1966 or 1968. Please confirm.

At first I thought Asad Bhopali was some raag biggrin.gif But then he was a very good lyricist (as per initial search on Google -- could not get too much info on him -- Sir Sri -- info hain aapke paas on this lyricist ? rolleyes.gif )

Lets take this time to go into the technical side of things for a bit....

-----
Internet definitions:

Constant Bitrate (CBR): Constant Bit Rate (CBR) encoding is an encoding method that varies the quality level in order to ensure a consistent bit rate throughout an encoded file.

Variable Bitrate (VBR): Variable Bit Rate (VBR) is an encoding method that ensures consistent high audio quality throughout an encoded file by making intelligent bit-allocation decisions during the encoding process. VBR encoding produces an overall higher and more consistent quality level than Constant Bit Rate encoding.
-----

Those are just fancy words -- here is what it means to me in my own words. MP3 files are not just any other music files, they are intelligent files. Their encoding is designed in such a way as to mimic the way the human brain recognizes sounds - which is to focus on the higher frequency & higher pitched sounds, and sort of ignore the lower frequency ones (unless u practice a lot with focusing on lower frequency sounds). MP3s mask strong audio signals over the weaker ones. I think MP3 concept was deveoped at the Franhauffer Institute in Germany.

With CBR files - you ignore a lot of the lower frequncy and extremely higher frequency areas of the song, so as to maintain file-size.

VBR files are catered to each song. If you notice the VBR Asha or Lata songs, and look at the bitrate as the song plays, you will find that as the voice/music change in pitch and frequency, so does the song's bitrate - it varies constantly. When the singer sings at at higher pitch, it goes as high as 256 or 320 Kbps...and when it is just music, it goes to 128 or 160 Kbps. These files are often larger too.

A 320 Kbps (average) VBR file has much more info/data/bits than a 320 Kbps CBR file. In conclusion - VBR files are better.

smile1.gif I wonder if U ppl are actually reading all this smile1.gif

Here's some more interesting info for you, Sani.
Sawan Bhadon was not the first film for Rekha !!
Kuljit Pal - of the Pal Brothers from East Africa, contracted Rekha for her first movie with Biswajeet - 'Anjaana Safar' around 1968. In 'Anjaana safar' she was tricked into a kiss without any warning by Biswajit - as part of a plan for a photo feature with LIFE magazine. This scene did not get past the censors. Rekha's exclusive contract with the producers could not be enforced because she was a minor when she signed up. The movie could not be completed and was not released. That is how, Sawan Bhadon became her first release, in 1970.

However, 11 years after it was initially shot, this same film - with some remaining scenes being re-shot (this time with a much better looking Rekha) - was finally released in 1979 - under the name of 'Do Shikari' - produced by Kuljit Pal. Some scenes still looked incomplete and the film ends rather abruptly !! Rekha looks very young in 'Do Shikari' except for a few scenes which look like they were shot in the late 70s ....since Rekha looks more sophisticated and better made up in those scenes. But, for most of the film she looks very young and 'new'.

Another bit of connected info : Everyone knows that Amjad Khan's first film was the big budget 'Sholay' as Gabbar Singh. But actually, Sholay was not the first film of Amjad Khan ! He acted in another film - wearing costumes similar to Gabbar Singh in some scenes...as a bad guy of course...almost 7 years before Sholay was released. Unfortunately, this film got canned because the hero kissed the heroine...and it did not get released until 1979 (4 years after Sholay) and that too, with a new name. No marks for guessing which film that was !!!
laugh.gif
Sri
P.S. All this info - collected from various sources and pieced together - courtesy my own research some months ago - because my curiosity was aroused when I saw this film - the DVD of which I had bought ...because it had music by Chitragupt !! I remember I had shared this interesting 'finding' with J at that time.

Haan Sir Sri...that's actually what I meant biggrin.gif -- when I searched for Sawan Bhadon in Google to look for film's year of release..the first link I think says about this (not too much info though) - that it's her first release, not first film.

Didn't know at all about the Sholay thing!! So...what's the first film Mr.Khan worked in ???

I was waching the film Mera Gaon Mera Desh the other day -- it starred Amjad Ali Khan's father -- Jayant I think -- is that his real name ?? He is a good actor with an expressive face.

Ahh...go to some cafe and download na. U R wunly downloading this onceeeeee ur lifetimeeeeee -- it's okay hence smile1.gif

Yes - it could be because of your sound card -- but I think it's the speakers too. Stereo speakers can tolerate more vibrations than Ur mamuli computer speakers - so better sound, I think.

Transparent Audio ??? Or U mean Transparent Cables for Audio/Video -- if so -- then they are just lossless cables that are pretty expensive and used by professional artists.

More details about Mp3:

What is MP3
MP3 stands for MPEG Audio Layer III and it is a standard for audio compression that makes any music file smaller with little or no loss of sound quality. MP3 is part of MPEG, an acronym for Motion Pictures Expert Group, a family of standards for displaying video and audio using lossy compression. Standards set by the Industry Standards Organization or ISO, beginning in 1992 with the MPEG-1 standard. MPEG-1 is a video compression standard with low bandwidth. The high bandwidth audio and video compression standard of MPEG-2 followed and was good enough to use with DVD technology. MPEG Layer III or MP3 involves only audio compression.

Attached Image

Development of MP3 started back in 1987 in Germany at the Fraunhofer Institut Integrierte Schaltungen and its given name was the EUREKA project EU147, Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB). With the involvement of Professor Dieter Seitzer of the University of Erlangen an algorithm was developed and eventually became known as the ISO-MPEG Audio Layer-3 standard.

- History of MP3
* 1987 - The Fraunhofer Institut in Germany began research code-named EUREKA project EU147, Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB).
* January 1988 - Moving Picture Experts Group or MPEG was established as a subcommittee of the International Standards Organization/International Electrotechnical Commission or ISO/IEC.
* April 1989 - Fraunhofer received a German patent for MP3.
* 1992 - Fraunhofer's and Dieter Seitzer’s audio coding algorithm was integrated into MPEG-1.
* 1993 - MPEG-1 standard published.
* 1994 - MPEG-2 developed and published a year later.
* November 26, 1996 - United States patent issued for MP3.
* September 1998 - Fraunhofer started to enforce their patent rights. All developers of MP3 encoders or rippers and decoders/players now have to pay a licensing fee to Fraunhofer.
* February 1999 - A record company called SubPop is the first to distribute music tracks in the MP3 format.
* 1999 - Portable MP3 players appear.

What Can MP3 Do
Fraunhofer Gesellschaft has this to say about MP3:"Without Data reduction, digital audio signals typically consist of 16 bit samples recorded at a sampling rate more than twice the actual audio bandwidth (e.g. 44.1 kHz for Compact Discs). So you end up with more than 1.400 Mbit to represent just one second of stereo music in CD quality. By using MPEG audio coding, you may shrink down the original sound data from a CD by a factor of 12, without losing sound quality."

You will get the best results while creating Mp3 Files at the mode of VBR between 148 and 320 Kbts.
It depends also of the file type. When you have a sample where you don't have anny high instuments you will get the same result as you convert as lower bitrate. I use mostly the best codecs and update them oftenly to achhieve only the best Qality. When I am converting files I do it more then once and differant programm's but when you are using the Licenced Fraunhofer Institut SW it is asured that you will get the best result every time you use it. Afterall they have develloped and invented this file system and they always keep qality controles every now and then and if there are changes the SW companies comes with there updates.

To answer you Qestion Priya,
Can someone also tell me why transparent audio--why is it transparent btw--160 and above sounds better on the music system but often hissy on the comp?
>> This has to do with how sound reacts in a close room + Small Speakers AND how it reacts in a open room with large speakers. Music is not more then Sound vibrations what goes from A to B and in a close room it gets more faster and has more feedback then in a more open room. You also will notice when you are playing the same song on THE ORIGINAL Audio CD Format and a Best Qality Mp3 Format.
Play those on the stereo + PC Speakers. Compressed audio is more undetailed and ia more agressive for you ears. Therefore the most important of your PC and Stereo sytem is you SPEAKER SET, A good Speakers Set can create wonders for you ears and so we can listen to our favourite music with more joy and pleasure.

Is it that an old comp just has an inferior sound card?
No older Comp had mostly 16 Bit's Chipsets and were somway the half of what we now have
The Industry makes now 32Bits 96 Khz Sound cards so we can enjoy in Quadtruplicate form of our sounds.
And Ideal to this is to use best Qality Speakers set on your these sound cards.
So give attention to the files what you'r creating !!

So I hope I gave not too much tutorial.

No no .. it can't be 2001 -- the 2001 is that horrible movie (but with very good songs) starring that Govinda and a miss world biggrin.gif

There were 4 Albelas based on my search - 1951, 1971, 1989 & 2001. I am pretty sure that the one I uploaded is from 1989, but I wanted U to confirm as well. Maybe SB-ji can help (and hence I drag him in again). Or maybe KCP can help. Or Nimz can help.

U can't search properly even - refer to this link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0382528/ smile1.gif
I wonder who gave lyrics to the song.

(also refer to: http://www.imdb.com/find?s=all&q=Albela)

Posted by: sani_thakur Aug 10 2006, 03:39 AM

And while SB-ji is searching for more info on that Albela song, lemme upload a well-known duet -- hehehe laugh.gif

Song #66:

Asha Bhosle & Usha Mangeshkar - Mubarak Ho Tumhe Pyare - Raani Aur Jaani (1973)
music: Satyam , lyrics: Pyarelal Santoshi ----> who is Satyam -- haven't heard of him before this song.

Sathyam is a music director in Telugu cinema. I have seen his name quite
