Great Pictures

hi mr verma,

are you referring to the photoes on my signature ?

if so thank you thumbs-up.gif

i love these pictures as they make me really proud ....that KS's hard work , not for one or two songs, but for an entire decade , has been recognised and facilitated by a reputed organisation in the united states

the incredible thing about kumar sanu's singing is that , although at one time he used to record at an incredible rate (and has now sung more than 10,000 songs), you can never tell which song he recorded in a hurry, or practiced less for......each one of them is a master-peice, full of emotions and expression

even gems like DO DIL MIL RAHE HAIN-pardes, were recorded in a single 20 minute take....and this is the proof of the genius of kumar sanu

it makes me proud that the entire nation voted for abhijeet sawant to be the indian idol, which proves that it is still kumar sanu's romantic and intense style of singing that the public still loves and wants (listen to the cheering in the back-ground !!)

kurtcobain-ji, very interesting train of thought. But why did you not extend this logic to Kishore-da, from him to KL Saigal and ultimately to Saigal's legendary guru, a faqir?
Kumar Sanu is still with us and singing well... people would listen to him if they want to, not his clones or poor substitutues.
This guy, Abhijit, is just starting his career and there is no point in burdening him with this huge responsibility of filling the shoes of Sanu-da, someone who has recorded well over 10,000 songs.
Abhijit himself likes Rafisaab and says he has the 'rang' of Rafisaab in his singing. Let him be, that's my humble suggestion.

dear rom,

i must say that my train of thought was indeed quite sketchy

abhijeet sawant is in no ways a sanu substitute.....but i was praising his voice and singing expression when i asserted that he bears similarity to sanu da's singing

rather, i would say that in the early and mid 90's sanu introduced a new style of romantic singing which is now incorporated into the singing styles of most top singers, and there is no reason why abhijeet sawant should be a exception to this

Dear kurtcobain, no issues... this happens.
From whatever little I've heard of Abhijit Sawant, it seems to me that he sings a bit like Sonu Nigam.
BTW, I like the beat and rendition of Sanuda's 'Tera Mera Pyar', apart from a couple of things. One, his voice seems to be digitally altered in the first line of each stanza. Two, at many places (all through the song) one can hear his very heavy intake of breath. I hope the sinus problems he has been suffering from will go away and he can sing like he did around 1990-92, when took the music scene by storm.
Best regards!

rom, I have never heard Abhijit Savant but that piece of info was an eye-opener. laugh.gif

Well, I've heard Abhijit Sawant's song 'Mohabbatein Lutaaunga' a few times, and I thought he sings like Sonu Nigam.
Sawant says there's an element of Rafisaab in his singing, and perhaps he tries to follow his style... and Sonu Nigam too has tried that. So the similarity, if it's there, could arise out of that.

hi anurag and rom,

post number 13 on this thread

http://www.hamaraforums.com/index.php?showtopic=10277&st=0

contains a recording of abhijeet sawant live during indian idol..... have a listen and decide for yourself !

i feel that his 'voice ' is similar to sonu nigam because it is quite high pitched, but his 'style', especially going by his 'hey hey ' in the start etc, and the soft voice modulation in the antara's is sanu derived

well, even sonu has incorporated these (sanu)qualities into his singing , starting with 'panchi nadiya', 'mujhe raat din' and '
meri duniya hai, tujh mein kahin'. sonu's style of singing is not what it was when he sang 'bewafa sanam'(that was pure rafi copying),

he has evolved and gained success by partly incorporating sanu's singing style into his own (flow, soft voice modulations etc)

sonu's first song ever was a sad remix of a kumar sanu song in KHUDDAR, 'woh ankh hi kya'. in that song kumar sanu's voice is velvet soft, while sonu nigams version is similar to how shabbir kumars version would have been

you can listen to that recording, and realise how far sonu has progressed from there

He is a great singer no doubt and its a shame that we are hearing less of him nowadays. I've always felt that there is 'soul' in Kumar Sanu's singing, which is lacking in other singers e.g. Udit, Abhijeet, Vinod Rathod, etc.. (i'm not including younger singers e.g. sonu, shaan, babul as IMO they dont even come close to the class of singers in KS' era). He has a very different style amongst his contempories and i feel that is precisley what gives him the edge. However, his voice has deteriorated somewhat and he seems less able to sing the kind of songs he did in the 90's. Maybe it is lack of practise or maybe nature has taken its toll (look at Lataji as a prime example of what time can do to ones voice) even Rafi saab's and Kishore da's voices underwent a change as the years went on, this is natural and unavoidable, but i feel that with KS, it has happened too soon. Maybe he needs to do 'riyaaz' on a regular basis but there is definately something different to his voice nowadays.

I have liked KS since i can remember and a lot of ppl critcise him on his 'nasal' sound. This dosent bother me, in fact i quite like his nasal tone in certain songs as this enables him to fill the song with 'dard' he had, at one point, mastered the art of filling each and every song with the right amount of emotion and control however nowadays i think that he tries too hard with the emotions and he is losing control over his songs. His songs in Vaada, MJS, Dreams, Girlfriend , Koi mere dil mein hai etc are all very nice and sung well but they are nothing extraordinary and nothing any other singer could not have sung. There used to be a time when we would listen to KS songs e.g, Aashiqui, Dil hai ke manta nahin, zindagi ek juaa, criminal and many many more and think 'wow only KS could have sung this song' but sadly this is sorely lacking nowadays. His Vocals in 'Zindagi ek juaa' are nothing short of amazing, the flow, bass, emotions and control he displays in these songs he has not displayed in any other album to date. in fact if you listen to any song of his from ZEJ (he out did Asha Bhonsle in this album by miles!) and then listen to any song from his present albums, you will feel that they are not the same singer. I desperately wish KS gets back into form and that we get melodious songs (which are also missing from todays albums).

Fingers Crossed!!!

Woh dil hi kya jisne dhoka khaya na ho.........???
Woh Gaana hi kya jisko Sanu gaaya na ho.................!!!

Kumar Sanu is always the best.

His nasal voice (which people criticize) should not be criticized.
That kind of a voice is pleasant to hear.

K.L. Saigal, S.D. Burman and all singers of yesteryears used to sing
using their nasal voice. Even Alka Yagnik and Asha Bhosle is nasal.
No one criticizes them. Then why Sanu?

Sanu can sing sad songs brilliantly.

When somebody cries, he cries using his nose. No one can cry closing his nose.
A person is crying means he is expressing his sad emotions.

When Sanu sings a sad song, he uses his nose to put that crying effect, that
sad effect in his songs, to make the song more real.

A brilliant example is "Mera Dil Bhi kitna paagal hai" from Saajan.
There are thosand of sad songs that Sanuda has sung.

Without some nasal touch, no song would be as pleasant to hear as they are
now.

Try to get it.

iam a big kumar sanu fan i can,t agree witheverything you say also i donot just like one singer, i listen to every singer there is you cannot tell me there no songs at all that you like from singers. furthermore i never heard asha bhosle singing off key or nasaly , she has total control of her voice high pitch and low pitch,.

this is my opinion so don,t take any offense. take care and enjoy listening to what you like.
