Ghulam Ali - Badshah-E-Ghazal

Ghulam Ali was born into a musical family. His father was a sarangi player as well as a vocalist. Ali was trained by Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan and his three brothers.

Ghulam Ali started singing for Radio Lahore in 1960. He has been a prolific singer and is very popular aside from Pakistan, his native country, in India as well. He has a large following through out the ghazal loving world.

Of late, Ghulam Ali is releasing only a few albums a year. He is concentrating on giving more live concerts traveling all around the world. The main instruments he uses for these concerts is a harmonium, that he usually plays, and an accompanying tabla. His use of other instruments is to complement the sounds of his music but he makes sure that it is his voice that is in control and not the instruments.

He released over 200 albums and sang several thousands of ghazals.

In the next few months, I will share of some of these albums with you. Here is "Aap Ki Pasand" ...

Ghulam Ali in New York

This album is from way back, 1982 to be exact. There are eight ghazals in this album. Because the source is from an MP3 album, you may find some of the ghazals are not as crisp in quality as from a CD. Because of the lengths of the ghazals, I will upload them in back-to-back two posts. Here is the first set of ghazals ...

Sehar Ho Rahi Hai

Here is another beautiful ghazal album from Ghulam Ali Saab. This one is from 1985. Interestingly, one of Ghulam Ali's newer album, "Saugaat", released in 2007, has seven of the same ghazals this album has, only they are slightly longer in duration. However, I am uploading here the original version from 1985, with all 10 ghazals in back-to-back two posts.

Here is the first set of ghazals ...
