Faiz sahib, it is said, insisted that Zehra Nigah recited her poems in taranum whenever he visited her home in London in the late 70's. What can be a greater compliment?

In this album there is no music just ghazal recitals by both Zehra Nigah and Faiz shaib. But such melodious voice reciting ghazals with full emotions from heart does not need music. In fact, in my opinion, is music.

Anyone who has not heard this album before is in for an absolute treat.

For those who are not familiar with the name, Zehra Nigah she is a Pakistani poet. Her ghazals have been sung by famous singers. Her brother Anwar Masood is a famous writer, sister Fatima Surraiya Bajiya is a poet and another sister Zubaida Tariq is a famous cook.

Zehra Nigah is one of the first two women poets to have achieved prominence in the 1950s in a predominantly male realm at that time. Besides her writing, she also became known for her spellbinding rendition in mushairas. She has published two books of verse titled Shaam ka Pehla Tara and Waraq. She has also been awarded the Pride of Performance for her contribution to literature.

Zehra Nigah writes both the ghazal and the nazm with the same involvement. The spontaneous use of everyday phrases and the colloquial idiom complement her direct and narrative style of writing, giving it a popular appeal that becomes even more pronounced in oral rendition. She has dealt with personal, social and gender themes very effectively in this manner.

I have ripped the songs from my casstte. Mybrother bought the original and i copied it of him and so I do not have the original cover but I have found a copy on the web .

some more.

as mentioned before I copied tape from my brother. I ran short of tape on one side so recorded only half of "Dua". I asked my brother to rip it for me from his tape and so you will notice that just this one ghazal/nazam is on slightly different pitch to the rest of the collection.
