Thanks Erum ji for the Nazrana song.

Best Regards

Samandar ko Baandhe Aisa Koi Ghaat Nahi, Kadmon ko thaame aisi koi baat nahin Patli si dhaara samundar mein milti hai, milkar ke kho jaati hai, ghaat ghaat hi rehte hain woh samundar ho jaati hai, karlo jo chaaho, banlo jo chaaho

“Geet boodhe nahin hote, unke chehron pe jhurriyan nahi girti
wo palte rahte hain, chalte rahte hain
sun-ne walo ki umra badal jaati hai….”

This couplet starts out in farsi (persian) and concludes in hindi/urdu. I translate the first three lines with my limited persian vocabulary:

Zihaal e Maskeen - See the state of the humble/downtrodden (lover)
Makun Ba Ranjish - Look at him without hatred
Be Haal e Hijra - For he is just separated (from his lover)

i.e. for example what is the meaning of zihaal, maskeen, mukun, ba ranjish etc.

I color-coded so that you can see the farsi word and the english translation....and the translation is almost literal.....of course ranjish is a separate word meaning hatred and the prefix ba makes it without hatred... hijra refers back to arabic/islamic history when the prophet was forced to leave Mecca and go to Madina.... maskeen is downtrodden/humble/poor.....etc.

I quote a beautiful poem written in urdu (with obvious farsi influence) by an indian poet Maninder Singh Bedi

Hum kisi deen se haun kayil e kirdaar to hain
Hum sana khan e shahe haidar e qaraar to hain
Naam lewa hain Muhammad ke parastar to hain
Yani majboor paye Ahmed e Mukhtar to hain

Ishq ho jaye kisi se, koi chara to nahin
Sirf Muslim ka muhammad pe ijara to nahin

Hi Faraaj
Iqbal saheb ke 'Shikwa' aur 'Jawab E Shikwa' kuchh kam samajh mein aate hain lekin Bedi saheb nein to un dono nazmo ki yaad bhi dila di aur ek kamaal ki nazm bhi likh dali jo samajh mein bhi aa jaati hai. Thanks for the poem. Harjinder
