Feroze Nizami Ji made excellent and very melodious music, and this naturally made him famous. It was sheer hard work from him and the singers he employed. His compositions had a great range from Hindustani Classical Music to Western Music as well as Thumris and Ghazals. He had a very large singer variety as well and made very good use of many of those great vocal talents. He himself was a great exponent of classical music. Hope to create a thread for his Pakistani films soon as well.

Starting a thread to appreciate this great genius and enjoy his immortal compositions. This is dedicated to his 10 pre - partition films, 1943 - 1947. He used almost 30 singers!

Here is his short but extremely memorable filmography:

1. Vishwas (1943) with Master Chaila Lal Ji
2. Badi Baat (1944)
3. Umang (1944)
4. Us Paar (1944)
5. Piya Milan (1945)
6. Sharbati Aankhein (1945)
7. Amar Raj (1946)
8. Nek Parveen (1946)
9. Jugnu (1947)
10. Rangeen Kahani (1947)

Regarding his favourite singers of pre - partition period, though he used a large number of singers, the great Amirbai Ji was his favourite vocalist (obviously, so, even among females). His second female favourite was another great top 1940s singer, Hamida Bano Ji. His favourite male singer was the veteran great, Mohammed Rafi Ji, who received a lot of encouragement and further training from him. G. M. Durrani Ji, a melodious top male singer of 1940s came next.

He used many more top playback singers like Zohrabai Ji, Rajkumari Banaraswali Ji, Shamshad Begum Ji, Zeenat Begum Ji, Naseem Akhtar Ji, Parul Ghosh Ji, Mohantara Ji, Binapani Ji and Hafiz Ali Khan Mastana Ji. Noor Jehan Ji, Feroze Dastoor Ji, Nirmala Devi Ji are some famous singing stars who sang for him. He also encouraged some great 1940s' singers who unfortunately never became top, like Kusum Mantri Ji and Krishna Kumari Ganguly Ji. Great classical vocalist, Malika-E-Mauseeqi Roshan Ara Begum Ji has sung some of her best film songs for him.

I will be posting the interesting song lists very soon, uploading songs I have. Our dear friends having the balance are requested to upload them.

Starting with Feroze Ji's first film, Vishwas (1943). The songs became very famous and our Feroze Ji became quite popular, even if not a top name. He gained a lot of recognition among directors and producers in the coming years.

The film musically starred the great top singing star Surendra Ji and top playback singer Parul Ghosh Ji (singing for popular 1940s' heroine Mehtab Ji), so people noticed them immediately and this helped a lot in the film's gaining fame. Baby Madhuri Ji, famous actress Meena Kumari Ji's sister played an important role as a child star and also sang 2 songs herself. Feroze Ji uses ranges of all of the three singers very well.

Note that the 2 Parul Ghosh Ji songs (duets with Surendra Ji) are often credited to Mehtab Ji, but it was only sung for her. Playback was by Parul Ji, and Mehtab Ji never really sang in the 1940s (she did sing sometime in 1930s playing important roles to make ends meet and also hummed a bit for her Ek Din Ka Badshah - 1945). Probably because then playback singers were many times not mentioned, and in turn, the actors were.

Uploading the 7/8 songs I have, request for the missing song. 6 uploaded now with available space and 7th in next post.

Unfortunately, I don't have any songs from his third film, Umang (1944). There are no singer credits available. But I'm sure singing star Harish Ji (who is among the cast, and has even sung as late as 1950s - which didn't encourage singing stars much) had some songs. Below are the film's details and song list. Our kind friends are humbly requested to upload whatever songs they have from this film:

3. Umang (1944)
Banner: Praja Pictures, Bombay
Leading Pair: Motilal, Chandraprabha
Cast: Harish, Prabha, Sunalini Devi, But Qashar, E Bilmoriya, Baby Rajrani, Madhurika, Geeta Sardesai, Sheikh, Pandit Ratan Piya, Haribhai

1. Khil Utha Saara Chaman Kyon, Mauj Par Aaya Hai Man Kyon - ?
2. Madhur Suron Mein Suno Kahani, Ek Tha Raja Ek Thi Rani - ?
3. Jhoomke Jhoomke, Aaja Re Baalam, Daras Dikha Ja Haan Jhoomke - ?
4. Jo Pyar Kare Dukh Paaye, Ye Kaisa Hai Anyay - ?
5. Radhe Chupayi Kahan Bansiya Batao Na - ?
6. Gaate - Gaate Jeevan Beta, Geet Piya Ka Ga Na Sakhi - ?
7. Kaise Khilega Wo Chaman, Ujda Jo Ho Bahar Mein - ?
8. Dil Mein Hazar Dard Hon Aankhon Mein Muskurayenge - ?

Please upload any songs from this film that you have,

Here are 3/8 songs from Feroze Ji's 4th classic, Us Paar, again in 1944. He uses four favourite playback singers again, Amirbai Ji, G. M. Durrani Ji, Naseem Akhtar Ji and Kusum Mantri Ji.

This was the first film of veteran, great playback singer Mukesh Ji. He sang a duet with Kusum Mantri Ji, giving playback for hero Ishwarlal Ji. Mukesh Ji had sung and acted before in Nirdosh (1941 - as hero alongside Nalini Jaywant Ji) and Dukh Sukh (1942 - among side cast). Thus Feroze Nizami Ji, leave alone his craze for the great Rafi Ji, his pet, introduced the great Mukesh Ji as a playback singer as well.

Below are details of the film as well as a song list, with three songs beautifully rendered by Amirbai Ji (who sang most for Swarnalata Ji in the latter's 1940s Indian career), G. M. Durrani Ji, Naseem Akhtar Ji, Kusum Mantri Ji and Mukesh Ji (luckily I have that duet biggrin.gif also thanks a ton to our dear Debopriyo Ji and Balaji Ji for two of the songs). Please upload remaining songs.

All 128 kbps:

4. Us Paar (1944)
Banner: Sun Art Pictures, Bombay
Leading Pair: Ishwarlal, Swarnalata
Cast: Chandramohan, Sulochana Chaterjee, Kanhaiyalal, Charlie, Chota Kabir

1. Char Char Shadiyan Na Karna Yaar - ?

2. Main Aapki Hoon Beena, Tum Geet Ho Kanhaiya - Amirbai Karnataki

3. Balamwa Ban Gaye Gentleman Gentleman Man Man Man Man - ?

4. Zara Bolo Ri Haan, Kya Logi Is Dil Ka Kiraya - Kusum Mantri, Mukesh (courtesy Debopriyo Ji) - 3.18 min

5. Aaj Nashe Main Hai Phulwari Aaj - Amirbai Karnataki, G M Durrani

6. Khevaiya Aao Chalen Us Paar Jahan Hawa Matwali - Amirbai Karnataki, G M Durrani, Naseem Akhtar - 3.24 min

7. Ye Qismat Ki Kya Kya Sitamgariyan Hain - Amirbai Karnataki (courtesy Balaji Ji) - 3.25 min

8. Panchi Panchi Panchi Bhoola Kal Ka Gaana, Dekh Raha Bheegi Aankhon Se Phoolon Ka Murjhana - G M Durrani

Enjoy and please upload remaining songs!

Next comes a great classic of excellent singing star (during 1940s, turned to playback singer after that) Nirmala Devi Ji and great actor Motilal Ji. For those who don't know Nirmala Ji, she was a great classical singer and mother of recent famous actor and comedian Govinda Ji. This film is Piya Milan (1945). Perhaps her famous duet with Rafi Ji, from Musafirkhana (1955), Jhoothe Zamanebhar Ke would make her more familiar.

Feroze Nizami Ji makes splendid use of the very mellifluous Nirmala Devi Ji's voice, giving this film's heroine half the number of songs in the film. Immortal melody queens Zohrabai Ji and Rajkumari Ji thrive under him as well, along with the relatively Krishna Kumari Ganguly Ji.

Surprisingly, Nizami Ji gives popular comedian Mirza Musharraf a solo - with - chorus as well. That would be certainly very interesting to hear, since I don't know any other film song by him. Also, Zohrabai makes a very versatile and gracious voice for Najma Ji (of Parwana, 1947 fame.....hero's sister? I think). Zohrabai Ji's voice seems to be employed very well with her innocence and sweetness in "Rakhi Ka Din", her soft romantic touches in "Aaye Din Aaye" and her bold and powerful quality in "Jaag Utho Nariyon". He shows us the worth and versatility of all such great singers he uses.

Below are four classics by Nirmala Devi Ji, as well as film and song details. Enjoy these 4 and please upload the balance.

All 128 kbps:

5. Piya Milan (1945)
Banner: Wadia Movietone, Bombay
Leading Pair: Motilal, Nirmala Devi
Cast: Najma, Leela Mishra, Mirza Musharraf, Wazir, Mohammed Khan, S Alam

1. Kisne Diya Hai Hamko Sahara - Nirmala Devi - 3.18 min

2. Ro Raha Hai Aaj Koi Muskurane Ke Liye - Nirmala Devi - 3.14 min

3. Aayi Basant Rani, Lachkili Sharmili - Nirmala Devi, Chorus

4. Suna Do, Mohabbat Ke Naghme Suna Do - Nirmala Devi - 3.03 min

5. Jaate Ho To Jao, Mere Gokul Ke Gwale - Krishna Kumari Ganguly

6. Rakhi Ka Din Aaya Bhaiyya - Zohrabai Ambalewali, Chorus

7. Lo Doob Gaya Khursheed, Ab Dekho Andhera Chane Laga - Rajkumari Dubey/Banaraswali

8. Ga Ga Re Manwa Ga, Geet Khushi Ke Ga - Nirmala Devi - 3.21 min

9. Aaye, Din Piya Milan Ke Aaye - Zohrabai Ambalewali

10. Jaag Utho Naariyon, Desh Ki Dulariyon - Zohrabai Ambalewali

11. Gopi O Mere Aziz God, Dekha Karo - Mirza Musharraf, Chorus

Enjoy and please upload the remaining!

Please enjoy 5/10 songs from Feroze Nizami Ji's 6th film, Sharbati Aankhein (1945). Feroze Ji helps Rafi Ji gain some recognition through the latter's 3 delightful songs in the immortal Rafi Ji's sugar sweet voice, singing for hero Ishwarlal Ji. Feroze Ji's dear (2nd favourite female singer as I mentioned) Hamida Bano Ji does an excellent job as well, making a great voice for great 1940s heroine Vanmala Ji. Another very versatile and excellent playback singer, Zeenat Begum Ji also sings for Nizami Ji. Great classically trained, 1940s singing star Feroze Dastoor Ji also sings two great songs for him. Below are film details and song list, with 5 evergreen delights. Please upload the remaining gems.

Here are great classical gems, evergreen to this day, from Amar Raj (1946). Feroze Nizami Ji makes incridible use of the classically trained artists out of these singers. The young Rafi Ji's huge range is well shown through songs like "Todo, Todo, Todo, Dil Ke Taar". Hamida Bano Ji and Krishna Kumari Ji excel under him again. Feroze Ji also gives the great classically trained singer Mohantara Ji (surname Talpade, after marriage - Ajinkya) one of her first successes and shows her classical prowess with "Main Jab Chedoon Prem Tarana", as with Rafi Ji who continues the same song.

Rafi Ji makes a great voice for great 1940s hero Trilok Kapoor Ji while Mohantara Ji does a very melodious job with another popular 1940s star, heroine Naseem Junior Ji. I think the Hamida Ji and Krishna Ji songs are sung for non - lead actors. The music of this film was one of the main reasons why it became very famous then. There is a young Nirupa Roy Ji as well - perhaps she was among the lead (second lead?) as well....then some female songs must have been picturised on her.

Thanks a lot to Hildebrand Ji, Balaji Ji, Debopriyo Ji and Mirsa Ji for all except the 2nd song.

Luckily, I have all these beautiful songs! All 128 kbps:

7. Amar Raj (1946)
Banner: Wadia Movietone, Bombay
Leading Pair: Naseem (Junior), Trilok Kapoor
Cast: H Prakash, Nirupa Roy, Sayani Atish, Dalpat, Rehana, Krishnakant

1. Mere Man Mein Jaaga Pyar, Mera Naach Utha Sansar - Mohantara Talpade/Ajinkya, Chorus - 3.22 min

2. Todo Todo Todo Dil Ke Taar, Tooten To Sangeet Lutayen - Mohammed Rafi - 3.22 min

3. Main Jab Chedoon Prem Tarana, Naache Mere Saath Zamana - (Mohantara)
….Main Jab Gaoon Geet Suhana, Gaaye Mere Saath Zamana (Rafi) - Mohammed Rafi, Mohantara Talpade/Ajinkya - 3.25 min

4. Dil Pukare Re Re Dil Pukare Re, Yahi Bole, Kya - Hamida Bano, Krishna Kumari Ganguly - 3.22 min

5. Dhoondh Le Sajni Saajan Apna Dhoondh Le Saajan - Krishna Kumari Ganguly - 3.19 min

6. Ik Chand Wahan Ik Chand Yahan Jiya Na Laage Mora - Hamida Bano, Krishna Kumari Ganguly - 3.30 min

7. Pran Tyagkar Tune Deewani, Jag Mein Bana Di Amar Kahani - Mohammed Rafi - 3.24 min

Enjoy!

The singer was indeed Govinda's mother.

Abhay,

Nirmala Devi (singer and Govinda's mother) acted as well. She, along with her husband Arun Kumar Ahuja had also produced a movie Sehra 1948 in which the both were the lead actors. The film sank without a trace affecting their financial status badly, but the notable thing about that film was that it was S. Mohinder's debut.

Yes, I'm completely sure. Nirmala Devi Ji and her husband Arun Kumar Ji were both great singing stars as well as playback singers, only that Nirmala Ji was a prestigious singing star in 1940s and playbacked 1950s and forward but Arun Kumar Ji has done quite a lot of playback even in the 1940s.

I recently saw a site with pictures of some great classical singers, and this included Nirmala Ji. Was not even a bit surprised to believe she was a top heroine - she looked very good. Moreover, you can also see that it is the same voice in both songs. One of my most favourite singers, a sweet and powerful voice.

You didn't say anything about the songs sad1.gif Utna pasand nahin aaye kya? Please do upload whatever you have and post your opinion on uploaded songs.

You're absolutely right Sir. Even though Sehra was a commercial disaster, the lovely songs (mostly by the leading pair of course) was quite popular among the audience.

One of her films (Nirmala Devi Ji's), Chalis Karod (1945) with music by Pandit Gobindram Ji, was remade in 1949 as Sudhar.

Please aap bhi bataiye na ki gaane acche lage ya nahin.

Now comes another great and blockbuster Feroze Ji classic - Nek Parveen (1946). Aaho Chashm Ragini Ji (the evergreen beauty) and Ulhas Ji, both of whom were famous lead actors (or more was Ragini Ji?) in the 1940s and the immortal music made the film a super - duper - hit. The hard work of Feroze Nizami Ji (himself a great vocalist, singing a duet here), Zeenat Begum Ji, Hamida Bano Ji, Naseem Akhtar Ji and Amirbai Ji was well appreciated. Of course, the classic performance of Ragini Ji also was much praised. The film itself is available now, and of course, so the songs.

Zeenat Begum Ji is very incredible over here, and Feroze Ji recognises the immortal voice match she provides for Ragini Ji, and shows the former's great range and, her ability to, without a tinge of shrillness, render very high notes from the bottom of her heart. So was the great singing then. The film had some of the most popular songs of Zeenat Ji and Hamida Ji. Hamida Ji was not much considered for high pitches in the beginning, but her fan Feroze Ji showed her great ability with the superhit Teri Zaat Pak Hai and, Hamida Ji sang a large number of high pitch songs thereafter. Naseem Akhtar Ji and Amirbai Ji did an excellent job with their bold and beautiful voices as well.

Here are film details and song list as well as songs.

Please note that with accordance to Geet Kosh, I've lised Aao Saheliyon and Aaj Dulhan Bani as two songs, but making the large wedding song (whose parts the above listed 2 songs are) into equal parts, I have these 2 songs as one and the continuation of Aaj Dulhan, Tera Bano....Aaya Kaun as another part.

Enjoy the above quoted Hamida Ji classic - probably her most famous song. Uploading her due to lack of space in previous post.

Enjoy again!
