Bundal Baaz (1976)
This movie was the second and last attempt by Shammi as a director. I haven't seen the movie but apparently it is a fantasy with genie and all that stuff a la Arabian Nights. Here is a description of the songs and the songs themselves ... Attached image(s) |

Parvarish (1977)
Here is another movie from the hit factory of Manmohan Desai. It wasn't that distinguished, yet was a winner at the box office. During this time, Amitabh was riding high and he just couldn't do anything wrong. Shabana is in a role that no director in the right mind would cast her. Yet, Desai did. For an accomplished lady who won all kinds of laurels for her acting abilities in most of her previous movies, the result here is very forgettable. Thankfully, Shabana never accepted another similar role in her brilliant career. Here are the details of the songs from this album and the songs themselves ... Attached image(s) |

Shalimar (1978)
This movie was made by Krishna Shah. A graduate of Bombay University, UCLA, and Yale, he settled in USA and made money in different enterprises. He had passion for cinema but this always did not transfer to good film making. Before he made "Shalimar" in Hindi and English, he made several other forgettable English movies - all B grade and forgettable. Some of the English movies he produced and directed were "Hard Rock Zombies", "Rivals", and "The River Niger". He also made a documentary on Hindi cinema called "Cinema Cinema". Later he pioneered movie animation in India with full length animation feature films like "The Legend of Ram" and "The Prince of Light". But his biggest achievement was to bring in several notable Hollywood actors and Bombay actors together to make "Shalimar". "Shalimar" stars several Hollywood dignitaries like Rex Harrison (who won an Oscar for "My Fair Lady"), John Saxon (Indian fans should remember him from Bruce Lee's "Enter the Dragon"), and Sylvia Miles. It was made in English and Hindi using the same actors. Even though very huge amount of money was spent on the movie, it was a financial disaster. It failed in both languages. Originally the English version had the same name "Shalimar". Later it was released in DVD under various names; "Raiders of Shalimar", "Raiders of the Sacred Storm", and "Deadly Thief". Inspite of all these gimmics, the movie never became popular. A book on making of the movie was published but it also went into obscurity. The only redeeming feature of the movie was the music of R.D. Burman. It was not his best, but even when RD was not at his best, he still was good. I will be uploading all the songs in three separate posts, one after another. The first posting will have all the songs from the movie. The second post will contain several musical themes from the movie. The third post will contain couple of songs rerecorded by Asha from her album "Asha Reveals Real R.D. Burman". Now for the first posting. Here is a description of the songs and the songs themselves ... This post has been edited by swarapriya: Mar 2 2009, 11:49 PM Attached image(s) |

Songs Of "Shalimar (1978) From Asha's Private Album
Asha released a 2-CD album called "Asha Reveals Real R.D. Burman". In the first CD, she had three songs from "Shalimar". I am uploading two of them here. The third one, "Mera Pyaar Shalimar", is almost identical to the original recording from the movie which I have already uploaded in the first posting for this movie. If anyone is interested, I can upload. Now for the details of these other two songs and the songs themselves ... Attached image(s) |

Ahsaas (1979)
I don't know too much about this movie. Shammi apparently appeared as a guest briefly. But Bappi Lahiri composes some beautiful songs for this movie. Sources of these songs came from my CD colletion and the Forum member contributions. Now for the details of the songs and the songs themselves ... Attached image(s) |
