Pannalal Ghosh (1911-1960) is well-known as the greatest flute player of his era (and quite possibly the 20th century). He was also the husband of Parul Ghosh and thus brother in law of Anil Biswas. Apart from being a orchestra composer for AIR, he also composed songs for a handful of films. Below is his filmography - possibly partial. I'm uploading below the nine Pannalal compositions that I have. With the exception of Sawal, which is mp3/160 kbps, all the others are mp3/192 kbps which I ripped from a CD a few weeks back.

Enjoy!

Kind Regards
Faraaj

Thanks a lot, Faraaj!

Samandar ko Baandhe Aisa Koi Ghaat Nahi, Kadmon ko thaame aisi koi baat nahin Patli si dhaara samundar mein milti hai, milkar ke kho jaati hai, ghaat ghaat hi rehte hain woh samundar ho jaati hai, karlo jo chaaho, banlo jo chaaho

“Geet boodhe nahin hote, unke chehron pe jhurriyan nahi girti
wo palte rahte hain, chalte rahte hain
sun-ne walo ki umra badal jaati hai….”

Yes, very interesting.

Apparently his brother-in-law Anil Biswas, like Pannalal, was a dedicated freedom fighter. At one time Anil Biswas even absconded from the law (as a terrorist) and hid in Pannalal's house.....

There have also been persistent rumours that some of the compositions credited to Pannalal were actually composed by Anil Biswas. There was a quota system because of which Anil Biswas could only sign on as MD on a certain number of projects at a time. These rumours were especially strong about Police (1944).

Just sm info -
Bombay Talkies (which Pannalal ghosh joined in 1940s) still exists though completly overrun by small factories and workshops and shanties now known as Bombay Talkies Compound in Malad (W), Mumbai. Pannalal Ghosh used to stay very close to the film studio (a 2 minute walk). The street was later named "Pannalal Ghosh Marg" and the 2 storey house where the maestro resided still stands though in a very dilpidated condition. The area is now more popularly known as "Somwari Bazaar"
Incidentally Bombay Talkies Studio is where Lata Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar first met.
