Vyjanthimala looks positively ethreal in this one. I have always wondered, was she ever criticised for her attire in this movie? Those days she must've caused quite a stir. Yes indeed, she looks stupendously seductive. But somehow I don't recall much controversy about the attire at that time, though I would have been just about 11 so may have missed what the grown-ups were discussing. I think these period type costume dramas were given some liberties. There used to be a kids' story magazine called Chandamama which used to carry period-stories and the women were similarly attired (especially the Apsaras and Vishkanyas!). Thanks for the great quality. |

Thanks for the great quality. My pleasure (kya naam se pukare aap ko?) Yep, I do remember those comics and that attire, but I also remember women wearing body stockings under the revealing costumes (e.g. Waheeda in Piya Tose), including Helen in some of her dances. Fortunately, the song's been done very tastefully! Vyjanthimala felt very conservative in whatever else I have seen of her movies, hence the surprise I expect. Wasn't that much of a surprise when I saw Sharmila sashaying to "leja leja mera dil" in an Evening in Paris in cabaret attire. I am able to see avi videos!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hawwwwwwwww Vyjanthi loox seductive alright But clothing seems to pale compared to what our heroines wear these days But definitey in those days it must have caused a riot!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks Tji for both the vids. Vmala sure looks seductive, I remember being pretty amazed at her "Main Kya karoon Ram mujhe buddha mil gaya" and her bathing costume (ancient by today's standards ) in "Bol Radha Bol" more so because she does not seem to have been particulaly adventurous otherwise. To add to that was the fact that she managed to carry it all off...yes even the bathing suit. Waheeda Rehman... kya kehne However it set me wondering... Has she ever transgressed ?... "Paan khaye" comes to mind, but nothing beyond that. Not that I mean to send your thread off on a complete tangent... "This isn't right, this isn't even wrong." Ahhhh Sangam! Yes of course, I forgot the bathing suit But then Raj Kapoor had that effect on his leading ladies, I remember Nargis in a swim suit too (ancient as you said Madhavi ofc). Hmmm Amrapali came after Sangam (I just looked it up), so she'd shed some of her inhibitins by then I guess; yep makes sense what you said there Madhz. I wouldn't worry about meandering threads, let it go where it will.
Waheeda Rehman did a few bold roles, Guide's Rosie being one of them. I dunno if the English version was more ground breaking, haven't seen it; anyone?? She was a working woman in many films - Pyaasa, Mujhe Jeene Do (I assume?), Teesri Kasam - come to mind immediately, but I don't recall her attire being less than modest in whatever I have seen. Which reminds me. I want a video of her snake dance in Guide, my DVD doesn't have it! I was so disappointed. If anyone can upload it in good quality, I'd be much obliged. Where's SB? Hadn't he promised me something aeons ago?? Calling SB You must be the change you want to see in the world - Mahatma Gandhi |
