(Waheeda) Himmatwala (1983)
This hit Hindi film was based on the Telugu hit "Ooriki Monagaadu" made in 1981. Sridevi appeared in few Hindi movies before but this was the movie that made her a star in Hindi films. This movie made by Padmalaya Studios, which is owned by the Telugu actor Krishna, became a template for series of movies he made starring Jeetendra with either Sridevi or Jayaprada or sometimes both in the female leads. The formula never deviated. They all had music by Bappi Lahiri. Indeewar always wrote lyrics. Most songs were duets, sung by Asha and Kishore. Even actors like Kader Khan and Shakti Kapoor who were in all of these movies were used as comic villains. Sometimes Amjad Khan appeared, again as a comic villain. The director for most movies was also the same person, K. Raghavendra Rao. The songs from this film became super hits. With Jeetendra swinging and jumping, the movie was entertaining. My favorite from the album is the duet by Lata and Kishoreda, "Nainon Mein Sapna". A lovely song with Bappi's stamp all over it. It is interesting he has Lata sing this song as most of his duets were sung by Asha and Kishore. I will upload songs from the Telugu film in this thread following these songs. Here are the swinging and fun-filled songs from this film... Attached image(s) |

(Sharmila) Charitraheen (1974) Here is a fine album from RD who gave so many hit songs for the Shakti Films banner for the producer & director Shakti Samanta. I am also including here a special version of "Teri Meri" that includes a glowing introduction by RD on Asha. I'm not sure if this was recorded before RD was married to Asha or not. It is taken from the album "Legends: R.D. Burman - The Versatile Composer (CD 3)". I haven't seen this movie but can someone please enlighten whether it was based on Sharat Chandra Chatterjee's immortal classic? Thanks. Now for the details of the songs and the songs themselves ... Is there a duet version of 'chota sa ghar' song with Anand Bakshi? Exon This post has been edited by Exon: Jun 23 2011, 03:18 AM |
