Concluding Songs from "Police (1958)"...

I am uploading several extended version songs in this post. Please be warned that the quality of these songs is extremely poor. Some are okay while some others are not that good.

With that caution, here are the songs...

(Nargis) Adalat (1958)

Here is beauty from the combination of the music director Madan Mohan Saab and the lyricist Rajinder Krishan ji. There are so many beautiful songs in this album that mentioning each one of them will be doing injustice to others. Yet I would like to pick a few of my favorites. The two ghazals by Lata, "Unn Ko Yeh Shikaayat Hai" and "Yoon Hasraton Ke Daagh" and that lovely duet by Asha and Rafi, "Zameen Se Humen". The last one especially reminds of the song from "Pyaasa (1957)", "Hum Aaap Ki Aankhon Mein" sung by Geetaji and Rafi Saab.

I am uploading these songs in back-to-back two posts. Here are the songs in the first post including a special version of "Jaana Tha" with an introduction by the music director Jaidev...

(Madhubala) Do Ustad (1959)

Here is OP at his rollicking best. It is like one continuous celebration. These songs just burst with bubbliness and the fuzz never dries up.

One unusual aspect of this film is that Rafi Saab singing for Raj Kapoor. Not that this was the first time it has happened. But at this juncture in his career, the bond between Raj and Mukesh was well established. It was an understood fact that if Raj was starring in a movie, it was going to be Mukesh who will be singing for him. It didn't happen that way in this movie. Apparently Raj insisted that with the producer Sheikh Mukhtar, who also is a costar in the film, and the music director. Neither of them could budge so Raj went along with it. Raj probably was happy with the end results. The only thing people remembered from this movie, which was a box-office failure, was ever so beautiful Madhubala who was very ill yet so spritely and full of life, and equally ebullient score of OP.

I am uploading songs from this film in three back-to-back posts. The first two posts contain songs from the film. The third post contains some of the extended versions.

Here are the songs in the first post...

I am uploading few of the extended version songs from this film. Please note that the quality of some of these songs is very uneven. I tried to clean the noise out and was only partially successful. Some songs have skips in them, especially the song "Tu Ladki". With that caution, here are these songs...

My Dear Taiyab,

I debated this long before deciding on Rafi Saab as the voice. Even though I was uncomfortable with the choice, I went along with that idea as all other songs in the film were sung by Rafi Saab. Anyway, I made changes to the table per your recommendation. Thank you for keeping me honest. I appreciate it very much.

The song, a gift from a friend, was made from a VCD.

Cheers,
S

(Madhubala) Insaan Jaag Utha (1959)

Here is another beautiful album from Burmanda. All songs just ooze with honeyed melody that was a trademark of almost all songs of Burmanda. In this album every song is an utter delight. Asha's song "Baat Badhti Gayi" is an example of what melody is all about. How about that priceless gem by Geetaji and Asha, "Jaanu Jaanu Ri"? What a memorable and mellifluous composition this song is. Listening to this song gives an elated exhilarating experience. How about the duet by Asha and Rafi Saab? "Chaand Sa Mukhda" is one of my favorite duets. You are completely enraptured and swept away with its lyrics and the style. I can go on and on about each and every song of this album. It is that good.

Two years earlier, Madhubala walked out of B.R. Chopra's "Naya Daur" as its leading lady. Here she was given another chance in this Shakti Samanta's musical film to reprise a similar role. As usual her effervescence pervades the movie with enlighting and enchanting energy.

Shakti Samanta, who produced and directed this movie, shot it almost entirely outdoors. The locale was Nagarjuna Sagar, in Andhra Pradesh, where the dam was under construction at that time. The site, atmosphere, and the buzz associated with the work of the dam fitted well with the movie's theme.

I am uploading the songs from this album in two back-to-back posts. These are from various sources including CD, DVD, and the Forum members (with thanks). I am also uploading a special version of the song "Jaanu Jaanu Ri" with Asha's introduction. It is taken from the album "Legends: Geeta Dutt - The Voice of Passion (CD 5)". This very same thing I heard Asha talk about in one of her concerts that I attended a few years back.

Let us get on this joy ride with songs from the first post…
