(Mumtaz) Pyar Kiye Jaa (1966)
Sridhar, who earlier made "Nazrana (1961)" and "Dil Ek Mandir (1963)", directed this movie from his Tamil hit "Kadhalikka Neramillai (1964)". The movie was also made in Telugu in 1965 as "Preminchi Choodu". It was not directed by Sridhar. The major highlight of the movie was the roles played by Mahmood and Om Prakash as son and father respectively. They were absolutely hilarious together. It turns out the original Tamil film and the Telugu versions also had the same attractions. Kihshoreda was there in this movie but in a smaller role, yet enough to make his presence known with his share of usual zaniness. Shashi was successful in imitating his older brother Shammi. Mumtaz once again was in a supporting role playing opposite Mahmood. Yet she easily overshadowed the two leading ladies of the movie, Rajashree (from South) and Kalpana. Another highlight of the movie was its music. There are several good songs in this album. My favorite is the duet of Lata & Mahendra, "Kisine Pukaara". I will upload songs from this film in two back-to-back posts. After I am done with them, I will also post songs from the Telugu version right in this section. Here is a description of the songs in the first post and the songs themselves ... This post has been edited by swarapriya: Sep 25 2010, 02:50 AM Attached image(s) |

Preminchi Choodu (1965) - A Telugu Film
Both "Pyar Kiye Jaa (1966)" and this film were based on the Tamil hit "Kadhalikka Neramillai (1964)". This movie was a modest hit inspite of some excellent songs and hilarious performances from Chalam and Relangi as son and father respectively. The major let down were the performances of both of the heroes, especially, Nageshwara Rao. The brilliant actor he is, ANR looked as a miscast and was ill at ease in the role. Any younger actor could have been fine. Here are the songs ... This post has been edited by swarapriya: Sep 26 2010, 12:29 AM Attached image(s) |

(Sharmila) An Evening In Paris (1967) Here is a beautiful album from the great pair Shankar & Jaikishan. Almost every song was a huge hit when the movie was released. Raf Saab has six beautiful solos and a hauntingly beautiful duet with Asha, "Raat Ke Hamsafar". Because of the number of songs I will upload them in two back-to-back posts. Here is the first set of songs ... please re-upload the extended versions of songs of "an evening in paris" Music is the literature of the heart; it commences where speech ends.

(Vyjayanti) Ishaara (1964)
This is a fine album from K&A. It has several beautiful songs like Mukesh's "Chal Mere Dil" and solos by Rafi Saab and Lata. Especially Lataji's solo "Tose Naina" is simply marvelous. I am uploading these songs in two back-to-back posts. Here is the first set of songs ... This post has been edited by swarapriya: Mar 15 2011, 11:50 AM Attached image(s) |

(Waheeda) Prem Pujari (1970)
There are a couple of things about this film that are worth mentioning. As usual, Burmanda's music was outstanding. It also was the first film directed by Dev Anand. It was a commercial flop. But Dev persisted and directed every movie he produced after this one. Only with some hits but invariably all misses. I am uploading these songs in back-to-back two posts. Except for one all songs from the film are in the first post. The second post contains the other songs as well as several specials. Here are the songs in the first post ... Concluding Songs from "Prem Pujari (1970)" ...
I am including some specials in this post. I have an audio clip of Dev included here with the song, "Phoolon Se", edited out. This was a recent recording and Dev's voice is very weak and hardly audible. This is taken from the album "Legends: Dev Anand - The Evergreen Star (CD 4)". I am including a special version of "Phoolon Se" with Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma's introduction (of the team Shiv-Hari). This is taken from the album, "Legends: S.D. Burman - The Ageless All Rounder (CD4)". Finally I am including Abhijeet's version of the same song. This is from his album "A Tribute to Kishore Kumar". Here are these songs ...
