(Sharmila) Safar (1970)

Here is one of the beautiful offerings from the music director duo Kalyanj & Anandji. There are only five songs in this movie but each one is a gem. Two of my favorites from this album are Kishoreda's sweet solo "Jeevan S Bhari" and Mannada's thought provoking "Nadiya Chale Chale Re". Both songs have some great lyrics of Indeewar going for them. Here are all of the songs from the original soundtrack album ...

(Vyjayanti) Aasha (1957)

Vyjayanti Mala was a daughter of a friend of the director of this movie. He offered her to work in the Tamil version of "Bahaar", which Raman was about to work on. Vyjayanti Mala's father agreed. Kishoreda had a role in that movie. Vyjayanti acted in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi versions of "Bahaar", all directed by Raman. She also acted in "Ladki" for M.V. Raman. That movie was also made in Tamil and Telugu. Kishoreda also starred in the Hindi version. Raman made these movies for AVM. But he started making movies for his own banner. "Aasha" was one of them. Incidentally, it also stars Kishoreda. In all these three Hindi films, apart from the director, all had Vyjayanti Mala and Kishore Kumar in it.

The movie "Aasha" had several good songs. The song "Ina Mina Dika", especially Kishoreda version, was a sensation when the movie was originally released. It still is popular with the present day youth. Whenever Asha gives a concert, she always includes this song in her repertoire.

Because of the number of songs, and several extended versions of these, I will upload them in back-to-back two posts. Here is the first set of songs ...

(Waheeda) Kohraa (1964)

Here is an absolute beauty from Hemantda. Almost all songs from this album are real gems. I am uploading these songs in back-to-back two posts. In the first set of songs, the full version of "Jhoom Jhoom Dhalti Raat" is a union of the parts 1 and 2 of the same song. If you download the full version, it is not necessary to download parts 1 and 2. Here are these songs ...

(Zeenat) Hum Kisise Kum Naheen (1977)

Songs from this movie are like one continuous celebration. Rafi Saab heralded a big comeback with this movie. It was at Nasir Hussain's (producer and director of this movie) insistence that RD had Rafi Saab sing in the movie along with Kishoreda. If it was a comeback, then it was a glorious one. Rafi Saab not only got the Best Male Singer Award from Filmfare but also won the National Award as the Best Male Singer for the song "Kya Hua Tera Vaada". It turns out that for Nasir Hussain, as a director, this was the last big hit he enjoyed. After strings of failures following this movie, he had a huge hit in "Khayamat Se Khayamat Tak" that was directed by his son.

Actress Kajal Kiron was introduced in this movie. This was the only hit she enjoyed in her career. Besides Rafi Saab, the movie also won a couple of Filmfare technical awards. These awards were for the Best Cinematographer (Munir Khan) and the Best Art Direction (Shanti Dass).

Because of the number of songs in this album, I will upload them in back-to-back two posts. Here is the first set of songs ...

I may have erroneously assigned this song to "Hum Kisise Kum Naheen". Can anyone throw light on which movie is this song from before I make the change? Thanks. -S
