Aasmaan (1952)

In 1949, O.P. Nayyar scored music for the titles and a couple of interludes for the film “Kaneez”. The music directors for that film were Ghulam Haider and Hansraj Behl. “Aasmaan” was the first film for which OP composed all the songs. The very first song he recorded was “Iss Bewafa Jahaan Mein” sung by C.H. Atma. The very first song Geetaji sang for OP was “Dil Hai Diwaana”.

Incidentally Asha Parekh appeared as a child star in this film as Baby Asha Parekh.

Here are all the songs from this film…

SP Can you re-upload Kalpana, Kahin Din Kahi Raat, Jaane Mehboob, Jaali Note, Humsaaya, Farishta, Choo Mantar, Aasmaan and 12 O Clock. Thanks in advance.

Seshadri,

Your list is long. I will be happy to accommodate but will need some time. I am busy with other things. I will try to upload these albums in alphabetical order one at a time with some gap in between them. Please give me some time to start with the first one on your list, "Aasmaan". May be by early next week.

Cheers,
S

At your own time SP. I understand.... I have all these albums but the quality is not that great. So was thinking of upgrading theses... Any ways thanks in advance.,...

Chhoo Mantar (1956)

The only redeeming feature of this third rate film was its first rate music by the inimitable O.P. Nayyar Saab. Several songs from the film became chartbusters. My favorites are the duets “Aankh Mein Surat Teri”, “Hum Ne Jab Dil”, and “Tumhi Ne Dard Diya”. Here are these and other songs from this film…

Farishta (1958)

This is the only movie in which Sohrab Modi and Ashok Kumar worked together. Modi is seen throughout the movie, from the first scene through the last scene. Meena Kumari had a very light role. There are only six songs in the film for which OP composed music. A couple of them became very popular. These were “Aaj Maine Jaana” and “Balam Bada Jhoota”. Here are these and other songs from this film…

Humsaya (1968)

I have uploaded all songs and some music clips from this beautiful album in two back-to-back posts in the "Shair aur Sargam" thread in the "Sangeet ke Sitarey" directory. These are available starting at the following location...

Jaali Note (1960)

Shakti Samanta directed this film that follows the pattern of his earlier 1958 hit movie “Howrah Bridge”. The only difference here is that the hero is Dev Anand instead of Ashok Kumar. However his “Bridge” had another dimension to it. It was the city of Calcutta. That atmosphere is solely missing from this movie. The songs of “Jaali Note” became more popular than the movie. Even today these OP’s songs are hummable and thoroughly enjoyable.

If you are a fan of Asha and Rafi Saab duets, then you are in for a real treat. Seven of the duets out of nine songs were done by Asha and Rafiji. One solo was by Rafi Saab. The other song, a duet by Asha and Shamshadji, I am missing. It was not on CD or DVD. I am requesting members to share this song if they can. Thanks.

The songs “Chaand” and “Raat” are two different songs. The compositions are the same, the singing style is identical, and some of the words are also ditto. But the beginnings and antaras are different. Both are lovely songs.

I am uploading these songs and others from this hit album below…

Kahin Din Kahin Raat (1968)

This movie finds Mahendra Kapoor participating in five of the seven songs. OP had differences with Rafi during these years and drifted away from him. Mahendra was his choice to replace Rafi Saab. Mahendra, of course a great singer he was, was no Rafi Saab but does a good job with many songs here.

Rafi Saab or not, Mahendra and OP do not disappoint as several songs from the film became hit. My personal favorites are Asha’s solo “Hum Pe Ilzaam” and her beautiful duet with Mahendra, “Tumhaara Chaahne Waala”. Here are these and other songs from this film…

Jane Mehboob (1991)

This film was never released. However its album became available in 1991. With Asha out of his favor, OP opted for Anuradha Paudwal to sing all the female songs. Also with Rafi Saab gone, Mahendra was the male singer of OP’s choice. This is an average album that most fans are not even familiar that it exists.

Here are the songs from this film…
