Concluding the Dhun from "Hare Krishna... Hare Krishna..."...

Here is the second part of the dhun. Because of the length of the dhun I have to split it into two parts. To access the dhun it is imperative that you download both parts. Downloading only one part will not give access to the dhun.

Here are the two parts of the dhun...

Black Magic (Also Known As "Passions")

Before their son's tragic death one of the characteristics of albums of Chitraji & Jagjitji was to have English names for their titles. This trend continued starting from their debut album "The Unforgettables" in 1976. "Black Magic" was originally released in LP. Later it was released in CD as "Passions".

"Black Magic" ("Passions") has eight beautiful ghazals in it. I will upload them in two back-to-back posts. Incidentally the ghazal "Jawaani Ke Heele" in the first post reminds one of Rafi Saab's classic beauty "Kahin Ek Maasoom Naazuk Si Ladki" from the film "Shankar Husain (1977)".

Here are the songs in the first post...

Kaanoon Ki Awaaz (1989)

The only saving grace for this atrocious film is the music of Jagjitji. The movie has only few songs and only a couple of them are good. The songs that stand out are the solo by Lataji, "Mera Jug Jug Jiye", and the duet "Saajan Mere". I am not certain about the female singer of "Saajan" and the solo "Peeda". Also, the song "Peeda" appears to be of shorter duration in the DVD. There may be a longer version of this. If so, please share with us. Thank you.

Here are the songs from this album...

Goonj (1989)

I have serious misgivings about Jagjitji being the co-music director along with Biddu for this film. Their expertise seems to be poles apart and that is where I have problems. Except for the soul stirring magnificent Manna’s song and the title music, the album is mostly western in nature. It is hard to imagine Jagjitji giving music to any of these numbers. However, I could be very wrong about this. I did check various references on this. Most of them credit both Jagjitji and Biddu as the music directors for the film. I couldn’t get hold of the actual movie to verify this. May be someone can help clarify the situation.

Irrespective of these lingering doubts, here are the songs from this album…

Jagjit Singh has nothing to do with the music of Goonj. There are two Music directors in this pic.. Biddu & Binjoo Ali.

Thanks. So Jagjitji is after all not one of the music directors of this film. Thanks.

Cheers,

Hare Krishna... Hare Rama...

This is the other album mentioned earlier in one of my postings in this thread. There are only two devotionals in this album, both lengthy ones. I have to split them into two parts each. To access the full devotional it is imperative that you download both of its parts. Downloading any one part will not work.

I am uploading these devotionals in two back-to-back posts. Here are the two parts of the first devotional...

Kahkashan - The Television Series (1989-1991)

Ali Sardar Jafri, (see his attached picture), who produced this television series, was a critic, documentary filmmaker, freedom fighter, pacifist, poet, radical activist, rebel, and story writer all at the same time. He wrote mostly about compassion, love, perseverance, and sensitivity. Like the critic Irfan Ahmed wrote, “…his poetry began in radical delight and ended in civilizational wisdom” a modification of English poet Robert Frost’s opinion that stated “Poetry begins in delight and ends in wisdom.”

“Kahkashan” was a television series that was produced in the years 1989 to 1991. The series depicted lives and times of seven modern Urdu poets who changed Urdu poetry for good. These were:

1. Faiz Ahmed Faiz
2. Firaq Gorakhpuri
3. Hasrat Mohani
4. Jigar Moradabadi
5. Josh Malihabadi
6. Majaz Lucknowi
7. Makhdoom Mohiuddin

I was able to get hold of all songs and videos of items 2 to 7 but nothing on item 1. If anyone of the members can share ghazals from Faiz’s show, please do. Thank you.

Jagjitji was the music director of the “Kahkashan” series. This is considered to be one of his best works in par with “Mirza Ghalib”.

We will start on the ghazals of these famous poets from this TV series starting in the next post.
