(Mala) Suhagan (1964)
This movie was based on a Tamil hit. It was also made in Telugu in 1965 as "Sumangali". I will upload songs from the Telugu film in this section immediately after these. The story of this movie in my opinion is as absurd as I can think of. I haven't seen either the original or the Hindi version. But the Telugu version that I saw, in spite of fine performances by the two principal actors, to me wasn't that appealing. But leave it to Madan Mohanji. He was always on mark and composed beautiful songs every opportunity he had. This film is no exception. Almost all songs are very good. Hasrat Jaipuri wrote the lyrics. I am not sure if that happened any other time. Rajinder Krishan, who seemed like has a contract for most movies made in South during 50's and early 60's, and who wrote lyrics for over one-third of Mohanji's songs, was not utilized here. But Jaipuri Saab, as he proved time and again with Shankar & Jaikishan, was his usual self, just great. Here are the songs... Attached image(s) |

Sumangali (1965) - A Telugu Film
This Telugu film and "Suhagan (1964)" were based on a Tamil hit. The film stars that great actress Savitri opposite Nageshwara Rao. Apart from its fine music the only redeeming feature of the film was the fine performance by Savitri. Here are the songs... (Vyjayanti) Naya Kanoon (1965)
Here is a beautiful album from ever so dependable Madan Mohan Saab. He has only two singers here, Asha and Rafi. All songs are solos except for one. Surprisingly there are no songs of Madanji's favorite singer, Lata, in this film. Asha siezes the opportunity to sing several beautiful songs. But Rafi Saab has several soul stirring solos like "Kuchh Aisi Pyaari Shakal", "Shamma Mein Taaqat" and "Unhein Qissa-E-Gham". Here are these and other beautiful songs from this album... Kishore Kumar Kishore, thanks for your suggestion. I generally upload what I have. Unfortunately most albums do not include title music. Unless one goes back to DVDs and rips it from the original source. What I find is that other members generally come forward and upload the title music if they have. Cheers. -S |
