SP..i can understand your feelings. But, as Suresh said, please dont abandon this thread midways...

QUOTE(madsur @ Mar 13 2010, 05:26 PM) *

Dear SP,

Have been visiting this forum after a long gap.
Chanced upon this thread & I, for one, was thrilled.
Having savoured only M.S.Subbalakshmi's cassette, the number of songs that were available, was breath taking.

Please keep up the good work.

I can empathise with your anguish. The principal reason, in my opinion, is the language.
Unlike spiritual music in Hindi, essentially bhajans, this is a different genre and, more so, in a different language.
These more akin to 'abhangs' in Marathi. 'Abhangs' are poetic offerings by different composers, principal among them being Tukaram, to Vittal at Pandarpur, Maharashtra; another composer who has revered Vittal in the most serene poetry is the famous Carnatic composer, Purandhara Dasa.

Since these are classical compositions, they are, certainly, an acquired taste.

Incidentally, the response to Bhajans section in this forum has not exactly set it on fire. You are on more difficult ground, with more adverse factors.

Do no feel disheartened. Having started, do complete it. Abandoning it midway, would be un-SP like.

Best wishes,
Suresh

P.S. If the cassettes/cds that you are uploading have details of the raga in which it has been sung, please mention them, if it is not a problem.
It would be most helpful.

Incidentally, Nitya's voice was, indeed very sweet, totally suited to this genre. Thanks for introducing to me a very talented singer.

Best Regards, Suresh

Suresh,

Thanks a lot to hear from you in a long time. Your encouragement is very reassuring.

Unfortunately, my dear Suresh, not all the keertans I have the informations about the ragas that I can share. I have an aptitude for good music, classical or otherwise. I am in general a casual listener but occasionally I do tread into stuff like this because listening to keertans like these gives me that tranquility which stills all of my worldly worries and eases my mind. But to guess the raga of a particular keertan is beyond my know how. May be some of our learned members can throw light on these.

Cheers,
Swarapriya

Got it. Thank you SF. This thread is just warming up. Midway is still a ways to go. Anyway, frustration aside, it is the encouragement like this that keeps me moving forward. Cheers. -S

Annamayya Geeta Mala

This album has 10 keertans, five by Vani Jairam and five by G. Anand. Vani with her incredible credentials is an established and venerable singer. But these keertans are the first songs I have heard of Anandji. I don't know anything about this singer. May be someone can help by filling in some details about him.

The following first post has Jairam's five keertans ...

Annamayya Pada Shobha

Here is another fine album of Annamayya sankeertans. This time the singer is Shobha Raju. For some reason or other, even though we have many fine singers like Raju, they don't seem to get the recognition they richly deserve. We pour our affections only on a selected few and forget the rest who are equally talented if not more. When you hear these keertans you know what I mean.

There are eight keertans in this album. I am uploading them in two back-to-back posts. Here are the first four keertans ...

G Anand is(rather was) a film singer who was also introduced by S P Kodandapani in the film Pandanti Kapuram, but couldnt get much of chances. He was singing tracks for many music directors esp Chakravarthy, sathyam.

Dikkulu choodaku ramayya pakkani unnadi seethamma(Kalpana-remake of Anamika) is his top hit. He has sung songs in many lowbudget and RED movies(the name generally given to the films of Madala Rangarao and R narayanamurthy). Later on he swithched to Private and devotional albums only.

Thank you very very much Kishor for giving details of Anand Gaaru. That was very informative. Cheers. -S

Annamayya Sankeertanalu

Under great Ramesh Naidu's music direction, there were several Annamayya keertans albums released with the title "Annamayya Sankeertanalu". The singers include Asha Bhosle, Balasubramanyam (Balu), Bala Murali Krishna, Poorna Chander, Susheela, Vani Jairam, Vedavati Prabhakar, and Yesudas. In this post I am uploading Asha's keertans. The other keertans will be uploaded in the coming weeks.

Asha Bhosle, who is still an active singer releasing album after album at 75, surprisingly does well in singing these keertans. There are only five keertans here, but Asha does a fine job with them.

Now for the keertans ...

Dear SP,

Thank you very much for this set by Priya sisters.
If I may say so, this set is the best (IMHO), that you have uploaded in this series.
Being professional singers, the class & finesse is very much evident.
I am very fond of their singing, especially Purandaradasa kritis.
And lastly, the the orchestration does not drown the melodious singing.
Thanks once again, for an excellent set of uploads.

With best regards,
suresh
