(Nutan) Sujata (1959)
Here are some of the beautiful compositions form the incomparable Burmanda. Every song from this album is full of melody, as if it is oozing with honeyed sweetness. One never gets tired of these songs even when you listen to them over and over again. Rich in lyrics. Packed with emotion. Beautiful to listen to. These songs just cast a spell over you. You are simply charmed. This film won several Filmfare awards; Best Film, Best Actress for Nutan; Best Director for Bimal Roy, and Best Story for Subodh Ghosh. It also won a special award from the Maharashtra Government for its theme dealing with untouchability. It was an official entry from India for the 1960 Cannes Film Festival. Along with the songs from the original soundtrack album, I am also uploading a special version of Talat's lovely "Jalte Hain Jiske Liye". This has an introduction by Anup Jalota. It is from the album "Legends: Talat Mahmood - The Silken Voice (CD 4)". Here are the sweet servings ... This post has been edited by swarapriya: Dec 29 2009, 11:33 AM Attached image(s) |

I don't recall for sure, but I believe the assistant for the music in "Sujata" was Pancham. That may explain why the humming in the title music (by Asha) is the tune of "Aap ke kamre me koi rehta hai" which was later sung by Asha in "YaadoN ki baarat". Then again, maybe it was an original SDB tune that Pancham later re-used. Either way, it is a lovely tune.

In the end music lovers are the winners. Cheers. -S |

(Vyjayanti) Taj (1956)
Here is the hit team of Hemantda-Rajinder Krishan-Vyjayanti Mala-Pradeep Kumar that made history with "Nagin" in 1954 back this time with this movie, "Taj". Songs of "Nagin" were a phenomenon that still grab your senses and won't let go easily. The songs of this album are not of the same caliber but no one can be blamed for that. "Nagin" was a tough act even for Hemantda to follow. Yet he succeeds here very admirably. This album also boasts several beautiful songs. I am uploading these in back-to-back two posts. Here is the first set ... Attached image(s) |

(Waheeda) Mujhe Jeene Do (1963)
Jaidev, who assisted Burmanda in so many of his films, learned well from his Guru on how to compose melodic songs. This album is a case in point. Some great songs come alive to some of the rich lyrics written by Sahir Saab. Sunil Dutt, who also produced this movie, won the Filmfare Award as a Best Actor for his performance in the role of a dacoit who eventually reforms. I am uploading these songs in back-to-back two posts. Here is the first set of songs ... Attached image(s) |
