(Waheeda) Baat Ek Raat Ki (1962)

Uploading songs of great Burmanda gives me a kind of that rare and satisfying pleasure. He definitely was one of our greatest composers for sure. I read some place that little over 70% of his songs were huge hits. That is a whopping number. For me Burmanda's music is not how many number of hits, but how many melodious songs he composed. Take, for example, this album. "Baat Ek Raat Ki" is an absolute winner. All the more so because of that great song by Hemantda, "Na Tum Humein Jaano". The baritone voice of Hemanta just breaks your heart. Also Suman's version is equally captivating. This album has all great songs except for "Jo Hain Deewaane Pyaar Ke". For me it is a letdown. Even then, there are seven good songs out of eight. That is slightly over 87%, beating hands down his own average.

I am uploading all of the songs from the original sound track CD in the first post. The second post has couple of specials. For now, here is the first set of songs ...

Songs of "Baat Ek Raat Ki (1962)" Continued ...

In this post I am including a couple of specials. The first song is the repeat of "Na Tum Humein Jaano". However, this one is preceded by a short introduction by Kalyanji of music director team Kalyanji & Anandji fame. It is from the album "Legends: S.D. Burman - The Ageless All Rounder (CD 3)".

The second song is the same song recorded by the singer Abhijeet. It is from his album "Salute to Legends".

Here are these two songs ...

Of course the Hemant/Suman duet of "Na tum hameN jaano" is certainly the
best song of this album. But I have a very very strong fondness for
"Sheeshe ka ho ki pathhar ka dil". Rafi's introduction to the song is lovely.
IMO, Rafi never sounded as sweet as he did for the senior Burman.
And then Lata just takes the song away to a whole other level. Not too many
people that I know like this song as much as I do. But then again, to each
their own when it comes to musical tastes I guess.

(Asha) Bharosa (1963)

Here is another nice album from Ravi. There are some popular songs in this album like Rafi Saab's "Iss Bhari Duniya Mein" and "Yeh Jhuke Jhuke Naina", the duet of Lata and Mahendra "Aaj Ki Mulaqat", and Lata's "Woh Dil Kahaan Se Laaoon". Guru Dutt was the hero opposite Asha Parekh in this movie based on a Tamil original. It was also made into a Telugu movie a year before the Hindi version. I believe the name of the Telugu movie was "Aatma Bandhuvu". I will upload songs of this movie right after the Hindi songs, in this same section.

In a recent interview, given in August 2009, Asha Parekh fondly remembers Guru Dutt, her costar in this movie. While they were shooting the movie, its director K. Shankar, got indisposed and to keep the schedue on time and on budget, apparently Guru stepped in to shoot a crucial sequence that involved Asha and Nana Palsikar. In Asha's own words, "... It was a mind-blowing experience! The way Guru was moving the camera and his way of explaining what he wanted and why was different from directors in those days who just expected you to blindly follow the instructions. ..."

Now for the songs of this very nice album ...

Aatma Bandhuvu (1962) - A Telugu Movie

I believe this is the Telugu version of the Hindi movie "Bharosa". Both the Hindi and Telugu versions were based on a hit Tamil movie. Telugu movie came a year earlier than the Hindi version. Here are the songs from the Telugu version ...

(Mala) Detective (1958)

Here is a beautiful album from Mukul Roy, brother of the legendary singer, Geeta Dutt. There is a short write up about him at Geetaji's website. You can get details at the following location ...

http://www.geetadutt.com/brother.html

My favorite song in this album is the duet of Geetaji and Hemantda "Mujh Ko Tum Jo Mile". This pair always delivered some great songs and this one is no exception. I am missing one song shown in red italics in the table below. Requesting members to share it if they can. Thank you.

Here are the songs ...
