Faraaj,

Yes, he's the same man - Mohammed Zahur 'Khayyam' Hashmi. He sang a few songs at the beginning of his career while he was assisting other MDs (when he went by the name Sharmaji). I think he sang a few duets with geeta dutt in Heer Ranjha as well.

Its surprising that Karan Dewan acted in the movie but didn't sing any songs. I'm uploading 5 of the songs you and Aditya haven't. The quality, while not CDQ, is generally ok. I can't remember the original source, possibly HF. All songs are mp3/128-160 kbps.

Kind Regards
Faraaj

Thanks for the songs Faraaj. -S

(Nargis) Aag (1948)

Young Raj Kapoor’s burning desire was to make his own movies. Unsatisfied with few movies he worked for, he launched his first production in early 1947, aptly titled “Aag”. He sold everything he owned to raise money. He even borrowed some from his servant who used to work at his home. Besides acting in it he co-wrote the story, wrote its screenplay, and also directed it.

The story dealt with a complex emotional triangle and comprised of three leading ladies; Nargis, Kamini Kaushal, and Nigar Sultana. The movie was restrained by smallness of its scale. Sets were modest. But camera was used chiefly for high-contrast lighting that proved to be brilliant for the movie.

Raj also introduced his wife’s brother, Prem Nath in the movie in a pivotal role. His younger brother Shashi played young Raj. His father recommended to sign Shankar & Jaikishan as music directors but Raj already signed Ram Ganguly. Both Shankar & Jaikishan as well as Dattaram were assistants to Ganguly in this movie.

During its production, India became independent from the British rule, and Raj was able to complete the movie within a year, by eartly 1948. The movie was ready for screening, but Raj couldn’t find any distributors to release his film. Undeterred Raj went ahead and released the movie himself. The movie was a commercial failure. However, Raj’s charged story treatment, its fine shot compositions and deft handling of the camera movements, and the beautiful music had secured many rarified reviews.

The movie may not have worked but Raj has arrived. He recruited a youthful team. He established his own R.K. Films banner. The movie world took notice that the fiery Raj who had shown flashes of brilliance with his “Aag” is about to set the world on fire with several socially conscientious movies in years to come.

I am uploading the songs in two back-to-back posts. Most of these are from a CD. However, some were contributed by the members of this Forum. Thank you. Now for the first set of songs ...

(Madhubala) Paras (1949)

Here are some of the songs from "Paras". Per EarthMusic I am missing three songs shown in red italics in the table below. If anyone of you have them, please kindly share ...

SP, A few corrections:

- Dil le Ke Chhupnewale is a Lata-Rafi duet
- Mohabbat mein kise and Mann Dole Nadi Kinare are one and the same song, and is sung by Rafi-Shamshad. I am attaching the version of Mann Dole, which has Mohabbat Mein Kise as the initial line

Here are the missing songs:

Barbaadi-e-Dil Ko Kya Roen - Paras 1949 - Shamshad - GM - 128 - 03:20

Mere Dil Ki Duniya - Paras 1949 - Rafi Shamshad - GM - 128 - 02:36

Mohabbat Mein Kise ... Man Dole Nadi Kinare - Paras 1949 - Rafi Shamshad - GM - 128 - 03:53
