(Meena) Lal Haveli (1944) Here are songs from this album. All female songs are by the great one, Noor Jehan. I am not sure about the singer of the songs "Ab Raat" and "Kyon Mann". It sounds like Rafi Saab. May be someone can verify this. Thanks. Now for the songs of "Lal Haveli" ... Both the songs, "Ab Raat Milan Ki Beet Chuki" and "Pyar Ke Sagar Se Nikli", are from Jadoo (1951). The song Kyun Mun Dhhoondhhe Prem Nadi Ka Kinara, which is from Lal Haveli, is not uploaded. I read somewhere that Teri Yaad Aaye Sanwariya (or some other Noor Jehan song in Lal Haveli) was actually composed by C. Ramchandra, who was Mir Saheb's assistant in this film. Of course, this comes from the pen of the 'great' Raju Bharatan, so the veracity of this claim is questionable. Can some knowledgeable HF emember clarify if the record credits this song to CR? Aditya I had never heard of Raju Bharatan until seeing your reference to him here. Having googled the name I read some of his articles and the ire directed them. It made for a very diverting hour of fun - the man is a genuine loose cannon! And his writing is all over the place - he can't retain a thought for more than a sentence or two. Which leads me to believe there's great scope for many HF members to consider entering the profession of writing about the 'golden era' and doing a great job! Faraaj bhai, The problem with Mr. Raju Bharathan is that he is highly opinionated. In my view, he thinks he knows every thing and compounds it with the conviction that all of that is correct and hence, gospel truth. However, I think this is one of the pitfalls of professional critics. There are very few who wear their knowledge and authority, lightly. Having said that, it must also be said that, he was, perhaps, IMHO, one of the first people who started to write about VHFM, in the popular press. This view, is, of course, subject to correction by better informed members, such as Aditya. And, even today, I have not come across any informed writing in the popular press about HFM in general & VHFM in particular, except cursory reviews of music discs. He has, certainly, cultivated the interest in VHFM in a lot of people; I am one among them. In the middle or the late eighties, Mr. Bharathan ran a very informative series of articles, in the form of a quiz, about VHFM, in the FILMFARE Magazine, whose editor at that time was one Mr. Pritish Nandy. Subsequently, Mr. Bharathan use to write a piece about Rafi, in an afternoon tabloid, MID - DAY. As you very rightly said, he is loose cannon; love him, hate him but cannot ignore him. His writings are great entertainment, of course. Best Regards, Suresh |

(Nargis) Taqdeer (1943)
Nargis turned barely 14 when she acted in this movie as the heroine aganist her wishes. She wanted to be a doctor like her father but her mother was grooming her to be an actress. When one of Indian cinema's greatest directors, Mehboob Khan came with the offer to act in his movie "Taqdeer", she couldn't pass it up. This movie became a huge hit and Nargis' taqdeer changed ever for good. Thanks to this movie, Indian moviegoers gained one of the greatest actresses of our times. Agha Jani Kashmiri was associated with Mehboob Khan from the beginning of later's directorial career. He wrote many of the stories for Mehboob's movies and also penned their dialogues. Mehboob Saab appointed him as a diction and speaking coach to Nargis. Kashmiri Saab worked hard with Nargis preparing her for this movie and in the end after the movie was released and became a huge success, everybody was gratified with the results of their hard work. Now for the songs from this movie where the sensational singing voice of Shamshad Begum is at the center stage with that great actor Motilal giving assist in some songs. Nargis (1946) – Nargis Anjuman (1948) – Nargis, Neelam, Jairaj & Anwar Hussain – Music: Bulo C. Rani Hi Swarapriya Nargis (1946) had music by Husnlal-Bhagatram with two good solos by Zohrabai Ambalewali. In fact, Aankhon Mein Aa is a beauty - you must've heard it. Both songs are CDQ 192kbps. Two songs from Anjuman (1948) as well. I am strongly biased towards Mukesh-Shamshad duets. I feel their voices went very well together. And this duet is quite lovely too. The audio is unfortunately so-so. Enjoy!
