Correctly, the name is Jagjit Kaur

She had a very good voice. Pity she had to struggle so much.

Punjabi ( Indian) films from 50's that I can think of right now 'Bhaaiya ji, Kaudey Shah, Jugni, Posti, Madari,
Lachhi,Chhai,Vanjara, Phumman,Bhangra,Guddi,Yamla Jat, Heer Syal,& Chaudhry Karnail Singh'. There are some others that I am aware of but cannot right now recollect their names.
I know of some Pakistani Punjabi films of 50's like Laarey Pheray, Kartar Singh, Dulla Bhatti, Mahi Munda,Yakke Wali,Guddi Gudda,Heer,& Zulfan.
Miss Deewanee had posted a link of lists of movies in Indian languages that had pretty much all the Punjabi films from 40's (?) onwards. I had it on my favorites list but some computer glitch erased it. If anyone knows of the link I would also like to have it. Also I had posted a list on a thread started by Mr Oye Sonu.Harjinder

Thanks for the information. Her husband Khayyam ( Sharmaji) has composed music for many Hindi films. I was not aware that they had gone throgh some tough times in their life. Her Hindi/Urdu film songs are still available in decent enough quality but her Punjabi songs are another story. Above posted song and 'We pind dia lambardara' are available (courtesy Mr Dharamvir) but their audio quality is not that great.
Did I miss something ? I did not catch the implication of your allusion to Laare and Pheray. Harjinder

I am sure that you have listened many many songs of Munawar Sultana.
so there should not bee any difficulty in identifying her voice.
IIRC, when Mr Dharmvir posted these songs a couple of years back, I
had given names of singers at that time too. Please update your tags.

I left India in 1967 and lost touch with Indian movies. I do not know much about Punjabi movies that were released in 1970's and later. I do know a little bit about recent (Indian) Punjabi movies , i. e the ones that were released in the last ten years or so; the ones starring all the Manns; Harbhajan Mann, Gurdas Mann, & Babbu Mann etc. Please check out thus this wikipedia list provided by Miss Deewani (I had mentioned it above as the one I could not find). This may contain almost all the Punjabi movie names.
