I hardly ever listen to Talat Mehmood. But, as you are aware, I am in the process of uploading my tapes to MP3. I have found 2 old Talat Mehmood (or I think its him) tapes lying around. Here is one of the tracks. Is it rare or common ? and shall I upload more from these tapes.
Yeh Kya Hai Dhang Any info would be appreciated. |

Just a stray thought.
Strangely, it stems from a topic in another thread, about whether one became a fan of Mohd. Rafi before or after his demise. I had put in my 2-cents that it is natural that someone like me should be a fan of the singer, for after all, we grew up listening to that voice. Whereas "new" fans are more authentic in their appreciation of the music and the song-rendering, and not carried away by the aura of the star on whom it was picturised, or by the success of the movie. That they would be "put off" by the quality of the old black-and-white picturizations, yet should appreciate the singing. In a similar vein, I did enjoy the recent colour mega-production "DEVDAS". I was impressed with the colour and the costumes and the dances and the sets. Just by the sheer grandeur of it all! Did it have any degree of "authenticity"? Did it bear any semblance to the original novel? Hardly. But then, whereas my daughters loved the new "DEVDAS", they would have no patience with the earlier black & white Bimal Roy version. I made it a point to revisit the earlier version. The new version should more aptly been titled "Devi aur Devdasi" --- in my opinion, Aishwarya Rai and Madhuri Dixit dominated the movie. Shah Rukh playing the role of Devdas, I thought, was virtually incidental. Whereas, in the old version, two things stand out for me: Dilip Kumar's portrayal of the role, with the memorable lines, "Kaun kambakht peene ke liye peeta hai?" and the transcendental rendering by Talat-sahab of "Mitua" with hardly any accompanying background music. Even long ago, the song was special to me. Without even identifying the movie or the star. Musical milestones and memories are made of such great renditions. If you stop trying to make sense of it all, you'll be less confused. Reality is an illusion.

QUOTE(rafi_rules @ Nov 30 2004, 12:23 AM) I shall revisit Unni's wandering thought, next time. Here's the much appreciated info that Akhtar would appreciate to appreciate, or we hope that such info is appreciated by the appreciative masses that might even include Akhtar, in his all appreciative glory. Without having downloaded the file, the song could be the following: Song: Yeh Kya Hai Dhang Zamane Ka Film: Daak Babu M. D: Dhani Ram Year: 1954 Duration: 3:12 This song also appears on the Legends series, Talat Mahmood The Silken Voice collection, CD 2. Akhtar, you're free to upload, either here or in the Files Section, under Shuklas' Talat Mahmood thread. If you would ever 'surprisingly' feel drawn towards some mesmerizingly beautiful renditions of Talat sahab and would like some recommendations, do let us know. zindagi ne kar diya, jab bhi udaas aa gaye ghabra ke hum, manzil ke paas sar jhukaaya, sar jhuka kar ro diye |

Yes, the attached image is the Legend series. Unni, Mohd or Cinemaniac2 would be the experts to call Talat Mahmood songs rare or common. I am just a greedy collector. Let's just wait for their verdict on these. By the way, I probably haven't exposed this earlier, but my favourite romantic song by Talat Mahmood has to be 'Bechain Nazar'. If not for the voice then definitely for the simple yet alluring old melody of C. Ramchander. And the words, how can one even hope to weave such beautiful words into such a song. zindagi ne kar diya, jab bhi udaas aa gaye ghabra ke hum, manzil ke paas sar jhukaaya, sar jhuka kar ro diye |

Madam C, that other song is one fine example of Talat sahab's underrated ability to infuse warmth & romance into a song. Now to the rescuing part ... Song: Keh Rahi Hain Dhadkane Pukaar Singer: Talat, Geeta Film: Laal Pari M.D: Hansraj Behl Lyrics: Asad Bhopali Duration: 3:17 Kahin aisa na ho paaun mere tharra jayein Aur teri marmari baahon ka sahaara na milay Ashk behtay rahain khamosh siyaah raaton mein Aur tere raeshmi aanchal ka kinaara na milay zindagi ne kar diya, jab bhi udaas aa gaye ghabra ke hum, manzil ke paas sar jhukaaya, sar jhuka kar ro diye |

Imran:
Instead of sending a PM, I am posting this since I also want to run this by Mohd.-ji and other Talat fans. I have some songs of Talat Mahmood that may not be considered 'rare' by the sophisticated Talat fans in HF. But anyway, for a start, here's the first listing of tracks. A second list will be posted later. Please let me know if you or any of our members would like me to upload any of these: Sapnon ki suhani duniya mein (SHIKAST) Mujhe dekho hasrat ki (BAAZ) Kabhi hai gham kabhi khushiyan (WARIS) --- rare? Zindagi mein aaye jab woh (DAK BABU) Mohabbat ki ham chot khaye huye hain (FARMAISH) Jise dil mein basana chaha (ADA) Gham na kar (SHAHZADA) Hai yeh wohi aasman (CHAR CHAND) --- rare? Sunauon kis ko fasana (SHIRIN FARHAD) Yeh ansoon khushi ke ansoon (EK NAZAR) Yeh bebasi yeh mera hale jaar ((ALIF LAILA) Aa bhi ja meri duniya mein (DAERA) Jiyunga jab talak (CHINGARI) Mitne de meri zindagi (MEHRBANI) If you stop trying to make sense of it all, you'll be less confused. Reality is an illusion.
