Dear Friends:

Lest people think that just because I have not responded to the Asha Lata controversy in Ek Thi Larki movie that I had nothing to state, here is my statement. I do not agree that the female singer is Asha as indicated above. After reassessing the song in question I have come to the conclusion that it is indeed Lata and I do still stand by my earlier assertion.

I even bought a new video of the movie but found no singers listed. Just imagine they listed even assistant makeup persons.

Then I listened to the songs again looking for even imaginary clues that would give way and lead me to Asha. Alas I found none. Especially, I was on the alert for the Asha signatures in the very early songs but was frustrated to find none. Then I thought perhaps the speed of the song must be slowed down because I might me missing the very minor /slight clues that people tend to miss when the song is a bit fast. I played it at a much slower speed using Windows Media Player and was amazed to note that at this speed it bore even more of Lata’s salient features than at the normal speed. Conclusion, Lata beyond a shadow of doubt.

I have received emails and telephone calls from members who have shown their agreement with me but I do not need them to tell me what I believe in. As far as the vocal members in this Forum are concerned I can demolish their arguments including my comments on the audio clips presented but would not like to be embroiled in an argument for the sake of argument, especially when I am appalled by the strong words used and the name calling resorted to when we discussed the last time.

I do not think that I am infallible. But people need to prove that I am wrong. This is the very forum where a lot people cannot distinguish Lata from Suman and Rafi from Mahendra Kapoor for some of the songs. If I would give any weight to the capability of any HF member whom I would consider to be a reasonable in recognizing Asha that would be Priya, the Great Asha Fan. Unfortunately, she no longer frequents this Forum. Nevertheless, she too did not disagree with Unni’s assertion that it was Lata. Other than that I would need confirmation contrary to my belief from an authoritative source, preferably from either Lata or Asha. Otherwise, we would be wasting our time.
