Thanks zippoo - for the elusive 'alvida' song from Benazir !! Many of us have been looking for this for some time. What's the source - any idea ???
Earlier, I had a guess about this song. I thought it must have been composed for the grand finale of the film (an obvious guess - since it was an 'alvida' scene !!) and may not have been liked by the film makers for some reason or may have had some shooting related problems (matching the soundtrack to the actions on stage). But by this time, SDB had a heart attack and fell ill and could not make any changes or compose a new tune for this secne ...so the job fell on RDB who was anyway the Asst Music Director for the film. RDB must have come up with the more lively Asha number 'Gham nahin jo zindagi veeraan hai' which must have been preferred by the film makers. This relatively more modern sounding song was quite nice by itself......but was as far removed from the scene at hand as possible ( which was a play set in the Mughal times...in which Meena Kumari plays the role of a dancer) !! Maybe it was a 'take it or leave it' situation for the producers !! Personally I felt the Lata song may have fitted better in the scene. My guess is corroborated now by the fact that the two tracks are almost exactly of the same length...though the Asha song has some additional music at the end to bring it to the same length as the 'Alvida' song. Alternate guess is that : SDB was ill - so RDB had to compose the last song anyway ( as well as another one - discussed in the Lata thread - see link below ). The film makers, after seeing the rushes, may not have been happy with the Asha song ( suitability -wise) and may have wanted an alternate track. But by the time the alternate was ready, it may have been difficult to re-shoot the scene...and so the alternate song (the Lata version) may have been canned - in which case, the 'alvida' song could probably be an RDB composition pretending to be an SDB one. The Asha song discussed above was uploaded by me on my Asha thread sometime ago...if anyone wants it pl let me know. Sri For those interested in discussion about these songs..... Here's a link to a related comment on the Asha thread - see post # 15 http://www.hamaraforums.com/index.php?showtopic=17341# ...and a link to some more interesting comments about the Benazir songs in the Lata thread - post no.s 33 and 34 http://www.hamaraforums.com/index.php?showtopic=14698&st=30# "Jis din is duniya se nafrat aur khudgarzi mit jaayegi, us roz yeh insaan naachega, us roz yeh dharti gaayegi" - Rajinder Krishan (Maa baap 1959)

SDB had a heart attack and fell ill and could not make any changes or compose a new tune for this secne ...so the job fell on RDB who was anyway the Asst Music Director for the film. I guess, it may have the same period of making 'Teen Deviyaan' . All songs of the film were having Mukhda-Tune by SDB & Antraa-Tunes by RDB. USR Dil Shaad Tha Ke Phool Khilenge Bahaar Mein

USR,
Teen Deviyan was released one year after Benazir ( like Guide - also released 1965 )....but i've never felt that those songs had any touch of RDB, with the exception of probably Are yaar mere. The Rafi songs sound so SDB-ish and so well composed in totality (i.e., mukhda, interlude music and antara) that it is unlikely that they could have been composed in a disjointed manner ...and that too, by 2 people. My view. Sri "Jis din is duniya se nafrat aur khudgarzi mit jaayegi, us roz yeh insaan naachega, us roz yeh dharti gaayegi" - Rajinder Krishan (Maa baap 1959)

Yeh leejiye ? First of all thanx for this song Zippoo. I had been wanting to hear it for several years now since I had never heard the song (or so I thought). A tune kept gungunoing in my head whenever I heard these lyrics and I kept dismissing it as my over-active imagination. Turns out I must have heard it on Vividh Bharati when I was growing up. Cause the tune is the same. Nice song. Wonder why it was never included in the film and why it is not on the Benazir CD either. |

After all the suggested additions for 1964, I'm positive I've missed out on several good songs in my selections for 1965. Hoping that members will once again remind me of various other good songs from this year:
Aji Rooth Kar Ab Kahaan Jaayiyega - ARZOO 5.05 Bedardi Baalma Tujhko - ARZOO 4.42 Dil Jo Na Keh Saka - BHEEGI RAAT 4.26 Ek Tu Na Mila - HIMALAY KI GODMEIN 4.10 Gumnaam Hai Koi - GUMNAAM 5.13 Kaanton Se Kheench Ke Ye Aanchal - GUIDE 3:53 Pardesiyon Se Na Ankhiyan Milana - JAB JAB PHOOL KHILE 3.14 Saathi Re Tujh Bin Jiya Udaas Re - POONAM KI RAAT 4.01 Tumhi Mere Mandir - KHANDAN 5.40 Yeh Sama - JAB JAB PHOOL KHILE 3.15 If you stop trying to make sense of it all, you'll be less confused. One more suggestion - jointly from Talaikya and myself ( she wanted me to bell the cat...so to speak ) Ek sunehri shaam thi - from the film Aao pyar karen 1964 - Music of Usha Khanna if it's not not on the list already Sri "Jis din is duniya se nafrat aur khudgarzi mit jaayegi, us roz yeh insaan naachega, us roz yeh dharti gaayegi" - Rajinder Krishan (Maa baap 1959)

TG:
Thanks for the suggestion for additions to the list for 1965. I need to check out "Haaye re tere chanchal nainwa" from "OONCHE LOG" and "Khanak gayo haaye bairi kangana" from "RISHTE NAATE". As per internet sources "PATI PATNI" is from 1966, but the song "Kajrey Badarwaa Rey" is in the compilation. From "LOOTERA" I'd opt for "Kisi Ko Patha Na Chaley Baat Ka" which was very popular at the time. Sri & TG: Yes, "Ek Sunehri Shaam" could be added to the list for 1964. Thanks, again! If you stop trying to make sense of it all, you'll be less confused. Reality is an illusion.
