Umr Jalwon mein basar ho,ye zaroori to nahin,
Har shab-e-gham ki sahar ho,ye zaroori to nahin Chashm-e-saqi se piyo,ya lab-e-sagar se piyo, Be khudi aathon pahar ho,ye zaroori to nahin Neend to dard ke bistar pe bhi aa sakti hai, unki aagosh mein sar ho,ye zaroori to nahin Sheikh karta to hai masjid mein khuda ko sajde, uske sajdon mein asar ho,ye zaroori to nahin Sab ki nazron mein ho saqi,ye zaroori hai magar, Sab pe saqi ki nazar ho,ye zaroori to nahin. Umr Jalwon mein..... |

did anyone else notice how Jagjit ji's voice "breaks" at some points in the ghazal, and he gets really annoyed with the musicians right afterwards ("zor se bajao"). I think Chitraji is right when she says that Jagjit was always a superlative composer, but it is only recently that his singing matches his composing excellence.
-manoneet ps: thanks for sharing the ghazal, mehra sahab. Bade dinon ke baad phir is ghazal ka zikr hua. |

I have always found his compositions to be a bit monotonous (except the album "Visions") but the soz in his voice always mesmerized me ! p.s. After listening to this ghazal, I'll make an exception just this once: his composition was better than his singing in this ghazal with one exception- the use of azaan in singing Sheikh karta to hai masjid mein.. was brilliant. This one is from a concert Jagjit/ Chitra live @ Wembley. Abt voice breaking, well it happens to almost everyone in live performances. Certainly one of his best live renditions...

Hi all,
I havent D-loaded this song. So cant comment on "voice break". But I have this ghazal in an Audio casset which is perfectly al right as far as voice of JS is concerned. The aajan type alap in "Sheikh karta to hain maszid me, khauda ko sajde" is simply mindblowing as well as the taan-alaap during "Chashm-e-shaqi". I very much agree with Bibhas that JS's compositions are too monotonous. Though I have mostly all the albums of him, I hardly listen to them. I like to listen to him Live only. It's gr8 to him ( & his extraordinary musicians) on stage. Rgds, Debu. |

He sang "Kaise kaise rang dikhaaye kaari ratiyan" in this movie - an absolutely beautiful bandish that I have been trying to get a hold of for decades.... Would anybody have this one? Shaibaal. All the ghazals in this CD "SAHER" is gr8..... you know why , because for this CD Jaggu bhai has chosen ghazals from various ports rather than sticking to one whole album written by Javed Akhtar or Gulzar , etc. You can listen all of them from Raaga website :- http://www.raaga.com/channels/hindi/movie/...agjit-singh.htm Did you notice all the songs have 5 star rating there .... Don't listen much to him (you know who I like), so heard this one for the first time. Can we have more of "Saher"?
