(Rekha) Kalyug (1981)
Shyam Benegal directed this movie about two feuding families that was inspired by the great "Mahabharat" epic. Shashi Kapoor who produced the movie also had a pivotal role (plays "Karan"). The movie didn't have too many songs. I am uploading a couple it had and some music clips ripped from a DVD. Here are these... Attached image(s) |

(Mala) Zid (1994)
This is the last film of Mala Sinha we will be covering in this thread. We started about her films in May 2009 and in the past 32 weeks we covered over 100 of her movies. There was one more film starring Mala, called "Sikander", that was "released" in 1996. This movie was in production for well over 10 years. Eventually it was released as a VHS video in 1996 but not in theaters. Even though Dharmendra headed its cast, the movie is difficult to get hold of and I do not have any information about its songs. For these reasons, I treat this film, "Zid", as Mala's last film. It also happens to be the last film for which the great maestro O.P. Nayyar Saab composed music for. Brilliant and uncompromising, OP trailed his own new blazes in hitherto uncharted avenues of music as a composer. Even working with a "new" set of singers ("new" to him), he showed here glimpses of what made him such a luminous legend he undoubtedly was. Here are the songs from this film... (Mumtaz) Bandhe Haath (1973)
Amitabh was still struggling to get a foothold in the industry. In this film, he was paired with Mumtaz, who was already one of the top actresses in 1973. It turned out to be the only movie for which both these performers worked together. I was reading recently where Amitabh fondly recalls of an incident while he was working with Mumtaz. Amitabh had a Fiat that he used to drive to work. Mumtaz had a Mercedes. Amitabh used to wonder how a Mercedes will be to drive. On this particular day, Mumtaz left early after finishing her shooting for that day. Amitabh has to stay back to complete his work. When he was done he couldn't find his car to drive back home. Then he saw Mumtaz's driver approach him. The driver handed over the keys of Mercedes to Amitabh. He told Amitabh that Mumtaz took his Fiat to drive back to her home and he was welcome to keep her Mercedes overnight. What a wonderful and gracious gesture. Simple things like these make lives so beautiful. Mumtaz scores huge points from me for showing such generosity of love and care towards her associates. Three cheers to you Mumu, wherever you are. Here is a beautiful album from RD. It has several nice songs including Kishoreda's hit song, "Dekho Yeh Mere Bandhe Haath". The standout song of the album, Asha's solo, is "O Maanjhi". I will upload these songs in back-to-back two posts. Here is the first set of songs... Attached image(s) |
